Bolthouse Farms class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Gwendolyn Smith has filed a class action lawsuit against Bolthouse Farms.
  • Why: Bolthouse Farms allegedly falsely touts its smoothie products as being natural even though they contain harmful synthetic chemicals.
  • Where: The Bolthouse Farms class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

Wm. Bolthouse Farms Inc. markets its Green Goodness Fruit Juice Smoothie products as a nutritious “100% Fruit Juice Smoothie” but they actually contain harmful synthetic chemicals, a class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Gwendolyn Smith says Bolthouse Farms has “engaged in pervasive marketing efforts” touting its smoothies as a natural fruit juice beverage. What the company allegedly fails to disclose, however, is that the products contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

PFAS are synthetic chemicals that are known as “forever chemicals” because they accumulate in the body over time, the Bolthouse Farms class action lawsuit explains.

Exposure to PFAS may lead to reproductive issues, developmental delays in children, increased risk of certain cancers, impaired immune response, hormone interference, increased cholesterol, and/or increased risk of obesity, according to findings by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Bolthouse Farms class action says company markets ‘natural’ product to health-conscious consumers

Bolthouse Farms’ smoothies are a ready-to-drink refrigerated juice product with various nutritional claims on the label, such as “no sugar added,” a good source of vitamins and antioxidants, and healthy ingredients, according to the Bolthouse Farms PFAS class action lawsuit.

These claims are meant to appeal to the growing market of health-conscious consumers who seek to consume products with all-natural ingredients, Smith alleges.

Smith says she has purchased Green Goodness Fruit Juice Smoothie products numerous times. After reviewing the packaging, labeling, and marketing materials, she believed that the smoothies were safe for consumption and were free of harmful chemicals that could negatively affect her health.

The Bolthouse Farms class action lawsuit states that Smith sought independent third-party testing for the smoothie products, which found significant levels of some forever chemicals.

Smith says that, had she known about the Bolthouse Farms PFAS content, she would not have purchased the smoothies or would have paid less for them.

The Bolthouse Farms class action lawsuit asserts claims for violations of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the New York Deceptive Trade Practices Act, breach of express warranty, fraud, and unjust enrichment.

Bolthouse Farms is just one of the latest companies to face allegations that it deceptively labels its products as natural when they actually contain synthetic ingredients.

Hello! I have been a top consumer of Bolthouse Products for nearly a decade. I’ve used their products on myself, my children, the elderly, and pushed them onto countless friends and family because I BELIEVED in the claims made by the company and on its packaging. At Minimum, I’ve spent 2-300$ EACH MONTH on Bolthouse for myself and my kids. Likely in the area of 10,000$++ over the years.
Upon contacting the company electronically and through voice, Bolthouse representives have assured me 💯% that the accusations are incorrect and that ALL OF their product meet or exceed safety guidelines regarding PFAs and even more subtle contamination.
I simply asked them for recent lab results so I can feel better about my decision making but they said they are UNABLE to provide any data showing their claims that their products meet acceptable standards. Yet they GAURANTEED me they are within compliant levels.
I’m very disillusioned, disappointed, and concerned by the responses Bolthouse has offered to me.
I’m not a “normal” consumer of their products. I am/was more like an unofficial Bolthouse sponsor/promoter.
I brought these products into so many peoples households because I believed in their health benefits and claims on their packaging.
Please add me to the list. I’d be more than happy to testify. My kids are also over age 21, they would testify just how much Bolthouse I’ve purchased, consumed, and promoted within my own family.
I had everyone buying their products and frankly, a good portion of my daily diet was from their products exclusively (2-400$ every month ALWAYS)
Thank you for your time and consideration.

This is just ridiculous! Can’t buy nothing anymore. My husband buy these every week to take to work. I mean every week. They are lined up in the frig right now. And, I use the Vanilla Chia Tea and the Blueberry smoothie thinking I am doing something by getting my blueberries in. UGH
This is just too much! I am to start eating air and drink water out the the hose. I am upset about this one.

I’m quite disillusioned about learning of the current situation with Bolthouse drinks containing dangerous amounts of synthetics etc.
I can HONESTLY say that I’ve purchased over 10,000$ worth of their products over the past 6-7 years. I’ve pushed them on my children as well as elderly parents.
On average, I’d estimate that I spend a MINIMUM of 200$ EACH month.
Upon contacting Bolthouse, they’ve continued to deny their products contain ANY PFA’s and their quality in all measurement meet or exceed safety standards.
I asked them which labs and data I could look at to assure me that it’s still safe to feed to my family and myself and at that point “Cheyenne said she won’t discuss ongoing litigation”
I’m literally known as the Bolthouse Guy and have been for nearly a decade. I’ve pushed these products onto parents to better nutritionally support their children INCLUDING my own.
I’m interested in getting on this class action lawsuit. I’ve never been part of one before and I’ve literally spent 10,000$+++ over the years. I believed in their company, the ingredients, the packaging, and nutritional health benefits claimed by Bolthouse.

  8. Lutz Scherneck says:

Again the consumer suffers for “look the other way” oversight. I have purchased many bottles of Bolthouse drinks. No more. I started hearing about the problems with PFOAs in the 2014’s where I worked in a textile finishing plant. The waste water went down the drain into the village wastewater plant which was not equipped to remove the chemical and it continued downstream to the Mohawk River. I never imagined that the products we buy at the grocery would be laced with these chemicals and marketed as being “Natural/Goodness”.

  9. Rhonda Pate says:

I’m suitably angered. I have been a very regular user of this product. Ugh. Yes, add me.

    1. ISAAC Xavier FLORES says:

      Please add me

  10. Michael w courtright says:

I’ve drank green good everyday for years .I too believe criminal charges are warranted for companies like this .add me to the list of complaintants
