VW Taos recall overview:

  • Who: Volkswagen (VW) recalled 15,874 of its model year 2022 VW Taos vehicles.
  • Why: VW initiated the recall over concerns it produced VW Taos vehicles with defective fuel delivery modules.
  • Where: The VW Taos recall is nationwide.
  • What are my options: Advance Auto Parts carries a variety of parts for VW Taos vehicles.

Volkswagen recalled 15,874 of its model year 2022 VW Taos vehicles over concerns it manufactured them with defective fuel delivery modules that can break when the vehicle is in operation.

The defect can cause the recalled vehicles’ Check Engine and/or EPC light to turn on, and, in rare cases, potentially lead to a sudden loss of engine power, according to a safety recall report submitted March 29.

VW says it is concerned that a potential sudden loss of engine power could “lead to a crash without warning;” however, the automaker says the issue cannot lead to a fuel leak.

The fuel delivery module defect is caused by either a small gap between the impeller and casing, a deformed impeller or the presence of foreign material such as aluminum or zinc, according to the VW recall.

VW will offer reimbursement plan to Taos owners under recall

VW says it plans to remedy the issue by replacing the affected fuel delivery units on the recalled Taos vehicles at no cost to vehicle owners. It will also offer a reimbursement plan.

Only VW Taos vehicles produced prior to the introduction of “an improved fuel delivery unit” are included in the recall, with those already manufactured with the “optimized version” excluded, according to the VW recall.

In related VW news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against VW in February, arguing it failed to pay for either the repair or replacement of in-tank fuel pumps in some of its Partial Zero Emissions vehicles in California.

One thought on VW announces recall for Taos crossover vehicles due to faulty fuel pump

  1. Erin Weseli Rossi says:

I own a 2022 VW Taos. It has been at the dealership since December 9th, 2023 for a head gasket replacement. Luckily I have had a loaner all this time. In the days after it was towed in I did research on the Taos and found other issues with this model; fuel injection, glitchey infotainment, and of course the head gasket problem. At the time it was towed in there were 16 Taos’s ahead of me, needing new gaskets. the Taos is the worst rated sub-compact SUV out there according to “Consumer reports”. My resale for this car will be pathetic. Help!
