ford super duty truck tireA class action lawsuit claims that 2017 and 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty trucks possess a defect that causes their tires to leak.

Plaintiffs James Collins and Ken Newman say they own Ford F-350 vehicles that possess the tire leak defect and they have to fill up the tires almost daily.

In Collins’ case, he allegedly went to a Ford dealership numerous times but the dealership only offered repairs that did not address the root problem of the defect. He says that he then hired a third-party dealership to fix the problem, but the wheels of his vehicle are still affected by the defect.

Likewise, Newman says he complained to Ford about the defect, but the dealerships did not remedy the problem. He claims that the dealership told him that the repairs to the wheels would not be covered under warranty. Newman says that he then had to pay out-of-pocket for repairs done by third-party mechanics. He claims that like Collins, his vehicle is still affected by the defect.

The Ford leaking tires class action lawsuit alleges that the tires of the Ford F-350 trucks leak because of a design defect in the wheels. The wheels reportedly have a valve stem which is affixed to a sensor and which is the point at which pressurized air is added to the tire. The Ford class action lawsuit says that the tire valve stems are made of a steel alloy, while the wheels are made of an aluminum alloy.

The Ford class action lawsuit goes on to say that the two metals are incompatible, because the contact between the steel valve stem and the aluminum wheel causes both to corrode where the two elements connect. This corrosion allegedly causes leaks, which result in the tires losing air pressure continuously. The customers claim that this is why they have to fill up their tires almost daily.

The plaintiffs allege that low tire pressure is a serious problem because it can take a toll on fuel economy, it can reduce the life of the tires, it can affect vehicle handling, and it can ultimately affect the safety of the passengers.

The customers claim that tires with low pressure can deflate or blow out instantaneously, which can cause the drivers to lose control of the vehicle.

The Ford class action lawsuit states that Ford offers a repair for the problem, but knows that the repair is ineffective. According to the Ford tire pressure class action lawsuit, the repair offered does not address the root issue of the defect — the corrosion and tire deflation.

own a 2012 ford f150 and have the same problem with the tires leaking down and think it is more of a safety issue. plus having uneven pressures all the time will not be good for your drive line and will cause stress and wear on your truck.

    1. Joe Bouchard says:

I love my 19 f350 dually. But I’m extremely tired of adding air and valve replacements. My dealership has been good to me, but it’s seams like an air compressor is life support for my tires. I believe Ford knows because my ford app tells me to add air all the time. I have noticed it get worse when weather changes.

2019 F350 same issue started at 37k local dealer says Ford will not cover any parts or labor….. absolute BS. Really Ford???? You know you have a problem step up and take care of it. Sign me up for the lawsuit

  3. John Yaeger says:

2017 F-350 DRW, 61000 miles, Started leaking at the metal valve stem in Nov 2020, discount tire replaced with rubber, mentioned that it looked like there was some corrosion. Started leaking again 3 days later, tried fix-a-flat, lasted one day. Tried slime, worked 2 weeks or so. Traveling back from FL to NC, lost 20 psi in 1 1/2 hours. Inflated to 75 psi, sprayed with windex and saw bubbles from a 2 inch crack running from valve stem to interior edge of rim. Never went to hometown dealership, never had any satisfaction from any other issues I have had in the past.

  4. Ray Sieevert says:

2017 F350 Dually – Lariat – front tire leaking about 1 -2 PSI per day. Took to dealer for other things – now they want to charge 150.00 to repair their defective product. I contacted Ford USA corporate to complain and demand reimbursement – see if the works at all??? Leaks at base of brass stem right at junction to aluminum – can’t actually see the corrosion, but I’m sure it is present at the junction of the brass/aluminum interface.

  5. Janire says:

Same issue I have a F350 dully has had leaks fixed 3 times and they don’t fix the issue they keep resealing the tires that keep leaking. Only has 10,000 miles and the problem started at 8,000 miles.

  6. Dale Crawford says:

I have a 2019 F350 DRW , valve stems have been leaking at the joint in the middle of the valve stem, ( where 2 parts of the stem, join together) they have been replaced by the dealer numerous times in the last year under warranty, now i am over mileage for the warranty, so Ford will no longer replace the stems ( for free) that they have been replacing all along

    1. John says:

I have replaced mine on my 2018 F350 approximately 6 to 7 times with only 22000 miles on it And now it has to have another

  7. Robert F Davidson says:

Well a 2018 dually here. Same problem as all the others. I have had a 3rd part separate the tire and rim to try and fix the issue but they still leak. They have slowed some but still leaking. I personally know the 3rd party and he showed me the problem. As stated earlier it is the metal differences causing the corrosion.

  8. john roache says:

2017 F350. Same issue. I’ve been blaming the guys at Discount Tire! I now see the corrosion around the valve stem!
