A class action lawsuit claims that 2017 and 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty trucks possess a defect that causes their tires to leak.
Plaintiffs James Collins and Ken Newman say they own Ford F-350 vehicles that possess the tire leak defect and they have to fill up the tires almost daily.
In Collins’ case, he allegedly went to a Ford dealership numerous times but the dealership only offered repairs that did not address the root problem of the defect. He says that he then hired a third-party dealership to fix the problem, but the wheels of his vehicle are still affected by the defect.
Likewise, Newman says he complained to Ford about the defect, but the dealerships did not remedy the problem. He claims that the dealership told him that the repairs to the wheels would not be covered under warranty. Newman says that he then had to pay out-of-pocket for repairs done by third-party mechanics. He claims that like Collins, his vehicle is still affected by the defect.
The Ford leaking tires class action lawsuit alleges that the tires of the Ford F-350 trucks leak because of a design defect in the wheels. The wheels reportedly have a valve stem which is affixed to a sensor and which is the point at which pressurized air is added to the tire. The Ford class action lawsuit says that the tire valve stems are made of a steel alloy, while the wheels are made of an aluminum alloy.
The Ford class action lawsuit goes on to say that the two metals are incompatible, because the contact between the steel valve stem and the aluminum wheel causes both to corrode where the two elements connect. This corrosion allegedly causes leaks, which result in the tires losing air pressure continuously. The customers claim that this is why they have to fill up their tires almost daily.
The plaintiffs allege that low tire pressure is a serious problem because it can take a toll on fuel economy, it can reduce the life of the tires, it can affect vehicle handling, and it can ultimately affect the safety of the passengers.
The customers claim that tires with low pressure can deflate or blow out instantaneously, which can cause the drivers to lose control of the vehicle.
The Ford class action lawsuit states that Ford offers a repair for the problem, but knows that the repair is ineffective. According to the Ford tire pressure class action lawsuit, the repair offered does not address the root issue of the defect — the corrosion and tire deflation.

Exact same issue from the moment I drove it off the lot, the TPMS all xrapped out, one broke inside the tire and the deal accused me of doing it even tho the tire had never left the rim. Just paid 800 plus to fix all those. On the leaks I’ve tried silicone, epoxy etc to no avail. Have an 80k truck I have to air the tires almost daily, its ridiculous.
2018 F350 Dually, Same issue as all the people above. Every other day I have to put air in these Tires. I am losing 5-7 PSI a night. I would love to be part of the Class Action as well. Is the only solution to Buy New wheels?
2019 F350 DRW Lariat. All outside tires leak as well. 5 to 10 psi a week. Have replaced the two front tires thinking it maybe an issue with the tires. Tires still leak 5 to 10 psi over a week.
I recently bought a used 2017 ford F350 with 70,000 miles on it. Within two weeks the front passenger side valve stem was leaking. The tire was going completely flate overnight. The dealer near me covered at no charge for 1 tire, but made it seem as if it was more than 1 then I would be paying out of pocket. With the Winter coming up I am nervous that this will be a serious safety concern and that I will be constantly adding air to the tire religiously.
Bought my 2017 F350 Dually new off the lot 06/2018. By middle of 2018-19 winter all allow wheels needed periodic frequent tire pressure fills. Have been to dealers and independent tire professionals with numerous valve stem replacements. Still leaking at valve stem to wheel areas. The inner dual wheels do not leak. They are steel. I now have 38,000 miles on this $70,000 truck and this is the only issue. It is absolutely a safety issue to me and anyone else on the road. I have to refill 1 to 2 tires daily.
Same problems here! 2017 F-350 dually. We have had the valve stems replaced 5 times and there is corrosion all around. Ford will not accept responsibility for this – they say it is not covered under warranty! For $3200 I can get a new set of wheels for them and they will discount them $800 – seriously! Come on! Why would I spend that kind of money on their wheels?? We did not spend $70K on a truck to have to put air in the tires EVERY time we drive it. This is not safe! Would love to be part of a lawsuit
Ditto
2017 F-350 serious corrosion around valve stem area only..
I have a 2019 F-350 DRW with 17,000 miles on it and my aluminum wheels leak and need to be refilled every 2 days yet my inner rear steel wheels have had zero issue. The dealer ship has “replaced” my valve stems 3 times and I have an appointment for them to do it a 4th time! I am glad I found this link about the class action lawsuit. I will need to know how to be apart of it! I haul my family of 4 around with a 4 foot 5th wheel behind it! Ford is going to be paying for a lot more then new rims if something happens to me or my family while on a trip due to a faulty design!!! I absolutely love my pick up. I just want what I paid for to work safely and efficiently.
I too have had the same issues and would like to be apart of the law suit ford 2017 ford f-350
Hello,
We are in SW Washington State. I have a 2019 F-350 Lariat DRW with just over 50,000 miles. We have been struggling with the tire deflation issues since January 2020. We purchased the vehicle new in July of 2019. We first thought it was the TPM and replaced the one losing the most air and the problem persisted. We recently changed the tires (thinking they were the issue. After the truck sat for five days – the 75 pounds of air had dropped to below 40. Our local Les Schwab has determined the fault is within the wheel where the valve stem meets the wheel. I have records of all of the Ford Pass warnings of low tire pressure readings if those will be of assistance in this suit. I would very much like to be included in this suit. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
