FCA Stellantis Dodge Ram Recall Overview:
- Who: FCA US is recalling more than 370,000 of its Dodge Durango SUVs and Ram 2500 pickups and cab chassis trucks.
- Why: The vehicles’ warning lights may not illuminate even if there is a problem.
- Where: The recall is nationwide.
More than 370,000 Dodge and Ram vehicles are being recalled because their electronic stability control (ESC) warning lights might not illuminate even if there is a problem.
The recall was issued Mar. 10 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission (NHTSA) in association with the manufacturer, Chrysler (FCA US, LLC).
“Unexpected performance of the ESC system with no warning to the driver can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the recall states.
Included in the recall are all 2021-2022 Dodge Durango SUVs, 2019-2022 Ram 2500 pickups and 2019-2022 Ram 3500 cab chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating below 10,000 lbs.
The vehicles are being recalled because they are not in compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards, which require ESC-equipped vehicles to have a working warning light that indicates when the system is not working.
ESC is a technology that prevents vehicles from sliding sideways in a turn by selectively and automatically applying the brakes. The feature can prevent rollover crashes.
The issue is due to a software problem within the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system modules, and will require dealers to perform a software update, the NHTSA said. Faulty vehicles may not display the ESC malfunction indicator lamp under certain malfunction conditions, which can leave drivers unaware of degraded ESC system performance.
FCA Faces Class Action Lawsuits For Other Issues
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits
FCA is currently facing a class action lawsuit alleging a design choice in the elite muscle car the Challenger SRT Demon ends up causing damage and affecting performance.
And in a class action lawsuit FCA tried to have dismissed last year, the plaintiffs claims FCA misled consumers and failed to fix problems related to the Challenger hood scoop.
The company has also faced a class action lawsuit alleging its Ram pickup trucks spontaneously caught fire, including one whose windshield exploded during the blaze.

6 thoughts onDodge Durango, Ram Vehicles Recalled Over Faulty Warning Lights
Purchased 11/16
Cooling system fail Feb. 2020 $1200
Computer harness fail Aug. 2021 $1600
Transmission failed Aug. 2022 $7000
No warning lights ever came on before failures.
On 11/08/16 got a dodge Durango with 6 year contract and extended warranty. Had a few $119.00 oil changes at dealer but started taking it to discount tire service or easy lube for the price reduction .The dealer had my car the entire month of February 2020 when the cooling system failed. Dealer replaced it for $1600. I told them the transmission wouldn’t go in reverse the day after my car was returned to me. They put in a pocket size plug in and said the computer miss read the command and the car moved when I put it in reverse.
In August 2021 the computer harness failed, the dealer had it for a week and it cost $1200. In August 2022 the transmission failed and the dealer wanted $7000 to fix it. Transmission is not 100% currently but running.
I have a 2021 Dodge Durango- why haven’t I heard of this? I’ve had my vehicle for 11 months and it’s been getting “serviced” for one thing or another for a total of almost two months! I really like driving my car, when I have it, but I’ve missed work more with this new car than I ever did when I had my 2005 cars. First, there was damage on the roof, we only noticed it when we washed it 5 days after purchase, so the bodyshop at dealer fixed it. At 10k miles it needed new brakes and machining of rotors. At 12k the tire pressures were off and not detected on rainy days. At 15k miles the display, camera, and keyfob detection started glitching up. Freezing and restarting on it’s own- sometimes in the morning sometimes at night. And now at only 19k miles, it overheated! I was driving to work it was 8:30am, and on a cool morning, with no warning! Spent all day trying to get it towed to the service center at the dealership, I ended up having it towed home at 11:15pm- and I was charged for it. They told us it was the heater cord and tube that needed replacing and it was “warn through to the exhaust”. Any recalls or lawsuits related to any of these issues? Did I mention that it’s also the R/T model? Maybe the cheaper models wouldn’t be giving me so many problems?!
