Carvana Vehicle Registration Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Dana Jennings and Joseph A. Furlong have filed a class action lawsuit against Carvana, LLC.
  • Why: Jennings and Furlong claim Carvana fails to register vehicles it sells in a timely manner.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Pennsylvania federal court.

Carvana fails to register the vehicles it sells to consumers in a timely manner, a class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiffs Dana Jennings and Joseph A. Furlong claim Carvana breaches its contract with its customers by delaying permanently transferring the title of the cars it sells.

“As a result, consumers are often unable to legally drive the cars they purchased because they cannot timely register the car or get adequate insurance coverage,” the Carvana class action states.

Jennings claims that, instead of receiving a permanent registration for the vehicle he purchased through Carvana, as was promised and paid for, the company has instead sent him six temporary license tags.

As of November 2021, Carvana still had not provided Jennings with a permanent registration for the vehicle he purchased in December 2020, according to the Carvana class action.

Furlong, meanwhile, claims Carvana failed to provide him with a permanent registration after his first temporary license tag expired, instead sending him another temporary, which he argues the company did not have the “legal right or authorization to do.”

Carvana Class Action Alleges Company Breached Contract With Customers

Jennings and Furlong claim Carvana is guilty of breach of contract and in violation of the Pennsylvania Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act

Plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and requesting actual and treble damages for themselves and all class members.

Jennings and Furlong want to represent nationwide class and Pennsylvania subclass of consumers who entered into a contract with Carvana to purchase a vehicle that the company agreed to provide permanent car registration services for.

In other complaints involving vehicles, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Mazda last month arguing the company knowingly sells vehicles with defective fuel pumps

Purchased my 2017 mazda cx-3 in June of 2020. They forgot to get the car inspected, so I had it done. Sent over all the paperwork to them and had to fight to get my hard tags until February of 2021. The car had a Georgia temporary tag when I got it and they sent me another one from Ohio, and I live in Maryland!

Have had this happen 3 times and most recent was worst by far & was my daughter’s first ever far buying experience. She went months and months without a plate, the temp plate virtually a blank white cardboard. Got stopped by a NH State Police officer who let her off only because his wife was experiencing the exact same problem. She was expected to pay hundreds a month for a lawn ornament it was illegal to drive. She could have vehicle towed and even face arrest. They lied and blamed Covid and “the DMV”. Well, in NH there is no DMV for registration. You walk into your city or town hall with paperwork and walk out with your valid plate that day. If they gave us the paperwork we could have registered it with a simple trip. They could have listed the lien like every dealership selling a financed car does. They didn’t need to do, but they refused to let us do it after months of them failing to do it. They also didn’t pay the $500 referral bonus they promised to the buyer nor the $100 to the referral source. Took months!

    Hi!
I’m writing from California I’m hopes that I can join a class action lawsuit against Carvana.

Three years ago I bought a car from Carvana in Arizona. I live in California and they said they had all of my paperwork handled and to wait for my tags to arrive in the mail.. It took over nine months for them to register my car. Finally they come through. So I went to DMV register my personal plates only to find out that THEY BOUNCED THEIR CHECK! Three years later I finally got my situation straightened out. Very lucky I haven’t gotten pulled over I’ve been driving illegally but only when necessary.

It has been three years of shear hell. I have documented every single minute of every single discussion. I tried EVERYTHING! I called the bank that financed my car…then found out they own the bank, the title company, the courier companies, etc. I’ve investigated them thoroughly for hours upon hours to try to reach legal. No answer.

I traveled to their headquarters in Tempe, AZ for meetings they invited me to. When I arrived they had no such record and no employee with the name I was supposed to be meeting. I FLEW USING MY OWN EXPENSES TO APPOINTMENTS THEY SET! I was told they have fake names for their protection.

Did you know Ernest Garcia II is a felon who committed bank fraud? The CEO’s dad is a major shareholder. This gives them super-votes!

Not to mention they laid off 2,500 employees.

Any way, that’s my experience in a nutshell. Please let me know if you’ve heard of any lawsuits in Arizona or California.

    Respectfully,

    Michelle Trippi

Dealing with the same issue right now In Missouri. I have kept all the communication and have no end in sight for my registration either. And my state doesn’t offer additional temp plates, so I feel totally screwed. I would LOVE TO share my experience and be added to this class action.

  5. Brian W Walker says:

I purchased a car from Carvana, in February, and still don’t have my title, registration or license plates. After 3 weeks, I called them and advocate Joshua, who told me that Carvana lost my title! A couple weeks later, I called them again, and I was told that there was no one named “Joshua” working there and that my title was not lost.

  6. Yazmin Duggan says:

  8. Kaylee says:

Yes! I bought a car from them in May 2021 and I still don’t have plates! I’m up to 4 temporary plates and I’m struggling for them to actually give me the 4th one.

  9. Heather says:

  10. Nurse Des says:

Yes!!! Sold me a car with engine issue and told me to pay the $8k to fix it. Swapped my car with another one and it’s been almost months with no registration documents and the old vehicle is still on my BMV profile. I need to be a member of this class action.
