Auto Recalls Overview:

  • Who: Auto owners.
  • Why: Several vehicle safety recalls, as well as a recall on thousands of child safety seats, were announced this week.
  • Where: The vehicle safety recalls affect autos nationwide.

Auto owners should be on the lookout for 2021 Ford F-150 SuperCab pickup trucks, cars still equipped with defective Takata airbag inflators, and Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible child car seats, all affected by recalls this week.

Millions of Vehicles with Takata Airbags

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 14 million automobiles equipped with defective Takata airbags remain on the road.

Tens of millions of vehicles were swept up in the Takata airbag recall. Takata began issuing recalls of its airbags in 2013 when it discovered that defective inflators in its airbags had been reported in conjunction with a series of injuries and deaths.

The airbags that are part of the Takata airbag recall share a defect that may cause them to explode unexpectedly. Takata included an ammonium nitrate inflator component that can deteriorate over time. The deteriorating cartridge may explode sending metal pieces throughout the cabin of the automobile.

Despite the massive recall, defective Takata airbags can still be found in millions of vehicles still on the road, according to NHTSA data. Indeed, in January of this year, Honda reported another death linked to the defective Takata airbag inflator in a 2002 Accord.

Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible Car Seats Recalled

Dorel Group has recalled 83,000 Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible child car seats because they may not properly protect larger, forward-facing children in a crash.

The NHTSA warns that the car seat failed a compliance test when it was secured only using a lap belt and not the top tether. Children who are more than 65 pounds risk coming into contact with the car interior in the event of a collision, risking head and neck injuries, says the agency.

Dorel Group has not yet set up a fix or notified those affected by the Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible child car seat recall, says Consumer Reports.

2021 Ford F-150 SuperCab Recall

More than 16,400 2021 Ford F-150 SuperCab pickups were recalled because the front seatbelts may not be routed correctly. The faulty seat belts may not work properly in a collision, potentially injuring drivers and passengers.

Owners can bring affected vehicles to a Ford dealer for a free inspection and replacement starting Sept. 6, 2021.

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other auto recalls to help keep consumers informed.

Consumers can check to see if their vehicles are a part of the Takata airbag, Ford F-50, or Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 car seat recalls, as well as other safety defect recalls by visiting the NHTSA website and entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number.

One thought on Recall Check: 14M Takata Airbags Still on the Road, 83K Car Seats Recalled, 16K Ford F-150 with Misrouted Seat Belts

  1. Jessica Ann Kairis-Swanson says:

What if you were seriously injured in an 2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport in 2007 or 2008. I’ve got bad memory problems from my suv rolling 3 1/2 times crushing my head and body. There was no eos system installed, the driver or side airbags never deployed and the seat belt locked me in while the ambulance and police officers the ones who finally stopped looked for a knife or something to cut me out of the seat belt. My head was 10 times its size by the time they got me out and since then I’ve had a total of 36 surgeries with more to come so they tell me. I’ve got metal head to toe throughout my body and have had several surgeries botched on purpose. I had an accident attorney his name was Keith Barton and associates. He was supposed to finish filling my lawsuits against the car lot or Mitsubishi and the airbag company and Tylenol but after he filed and won against the other drivers insurance he filed for bankruptcy and I’ve been unable to get any help from anyone this entire time!! I rolled on 10-21-2008 or 10-21-2007. I had acute liver failure from taking 4 Tylenol a day for one week and was hospitalized for almost 2 weeks either January 08 or January 09! Please, please, please, please any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
