Range Rover LR4, Child Restraint Recalls Overview:

  • Who: Land Rover and a number of other automakers have issued recalls for vehicle safety problems this week.
  • Why: The automakers warn that recalled vehicles may pose safety risks to motorists.
  • Where: Recalls have been issued nationwide.

Another week brings another round of recalls for car owners to check, including Land Rover LR4 and Sports vehicles that pose a fire risk and a slew of automakers warning about child restraint systems that may not work properly.

Land Rover LR4, Sport Recall

Nearly 112,000 Land Rover LR4 and Range Rover Sports vehicles may be equipped with a fuel outlet flange mounted on the fuel tank that is prone to cracking, says a recall issued by the automaker this week. Fuel could leak from the tank if a crack develops and also poses a fire risk, warned Land Rover.

The vehicles affected by the recall include:

  • 2010-2013 Range Rover Sport SUVs
  • 2010-2016 Land Rover LR4 SUVs

Owners should be on alert for the smell of fuel or an amber warning light, warns the automaker which will start notifying consumers affected by the recall in October.

Land Rover will replace the defective fuel flange free of charge. In addition, Land Rover LR4 and Sport owners who have already paid to fix the problem will be reimbursed.

Child Restraint Recalls

Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz have all issued recalls for problems with the child restraint systems in certain vehicles, according to the Detroit Free Press.

A problem with the rear seat belt automatic locking retractors may cause them to prematurely deactivate. The automakers are recalling thousands of vehicles with child restraints systems that may not work properly as a result of this potential vehicle safety defect.

Vehicles affected by a child restraint recall include:

  • Audi/Volkswagen vehicles, including the 2021 Volkswagen ID4, Audi A4 Allroad, A4 Sedan, A5 Cabriolet, A5 Coupe, A5 Sportback, A6 Allroad, A6 Sedan, A7, A8, E-Tron Quattro, E-Tron Sportback Quattro, Q3, Q5, Q5 Sportback, Q7, Q8, RS5 Sportback, RS5 Coupe, RS6 Avant, RS7, RSQ8, S4 Sedan, S5 Cabriolet, S5 Coupe, S5 Sportback, S6 Sedan, S7, S8, SQ5, SQ5 Sportback, SQ7, SQ8, and 2021-2022 S3 Sedan.
  • Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the 2021 G550, AMG G63, E350, E450, AMG CLS53, AMG E53, AMG GT43, AMG GT53, AMG GT63, 2021-2022 CLS450, and AMG E63.
  • Porsche vehicles, including the 2021 911 Carrera Coupe, 911 Carrera S Coupe, 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, 911 Carrera 4S Coupe, 911 Turbo Coupe, 911 Turbo S Coupe, Panamera, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, Panamera 4S, Panamera GTS, Panamera Turbo S, Taycan, Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan Turbo S.

In addition, Volkswagen is recalling certain 2021 ID4 vehicles because of another problem with the seat belts. Rear seatbelts without an important safety device, the automatic locking retractor, may have been installed. Owners of vehicles without this device may not be able to properly secure a child car seat.

Further, the owner’s manual of more than 7,000 2020-2021 Land Rover Defenders falsely states that the third row comes with LATCH child restraints with top tethers — a violation of federal vehicle safety standards.

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other auto recalls to help keep consumers informed.

Consumers can check to see if their vehicles are a part of the GM SUV recall or another safety defect recall by visiting the NHTSA website and entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number.
