Top Class Actions readers are starting to reap the benefits of class action settlements, and receiving checks in the mail from three cases.
Settlement checks are being mailed from the SmartPay text message class action settlement, the Welspun Egyptian – Pima Cotton class action settlement and the AMD CPUs class action settlement.
SmartPay Text Message Class Action Settlement
TCA readers are starting to receive checks in the amount of $279, related to an $8.7 million involving SmartPay. The company agreed to settle a case amid allegations that the leasing company sent out unwanted texts to consumers in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
Settlement checks will go out to consumers who received text messages from SmartPay Leasing or Twilio Inc., and continued to receive the texts even though they requested to not be contacted. The texts were sent between Sept. 29, 2015 and June 13, 2017.
The SmartPay class action lawsuit claims that the company continues to deny that they have violated the law, but have agreed to the settlement to defray the costs of ongoing litigation.
Class Members did not have to fill out a claim form in order to obtain money in the SmartPay class action settlement.
The deadline to object to the settlement passed on Dec. 16, 2019.
The plaintiffs were represented by Ronald A. Marron from the Law Offices of Ronald A. Marron.
The SmartPay Text Message Class Action Lawsuit was Esparza v. SmartPay Leasing Inc., Case No. 3:17-cv-03421, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Welspun Egyptian – Pima Cotton Class Action Settlement
TCA readers are reporting that they have received payouts in the amounts of $10.35 related to a class action lawsuit involving Welspun.
The company agreed to pay $36 million to consumers who purchased bed linens, towels, pillowcases, and comforters labeled as “Egyptian Cotton” or “Pima Cotton.”
The Welspun Egyptian – Pima cotton class action lawsuit claims that these items were not properly marketed. Consumers who purchased these Welspun items between Jan. 1, 2012 and July 2, 2019 were considered Class Members in this class action settlement.
The plaintiffs claimed that the defendants falsely advertised their products as being “Egyptian Cotton” or “Pima Cotton” as a way to get consumers to pay more for these items than they normally would.
Class Members who provided a proof of purchase along with a claim form should receive up to $2.30 for each towel and pillowcase or up to $9.20 for any other covered products that were part of the settlement agreement.
Customers who were not able to provide a receipt for their purchase will receive up to $1.15 per towel or pillowcase and $4.60 for any other items they purchased during the class period.
The claim form deadline for this class action settlement was Nov. 27, 2019.
The plaintiffs were represented by Bruce W. Steckler and Stuart Cochran of Steckler Gresham & Cochran PLLC, Matthew H. Armstrong of Armstrong Law Firm, and David Nelson of Nelson & Nelson.
The Welspun Egyptian – Pima Cotton Class Action Lawsuit is Hansen-Mitchell, et al. v. Welspun USA Inc., et al., Case No. 19-L-0391, in the Circuit Court for the 20th Judicial Circuit, County of St. Clair, State of Illinois.
AMD CPUs Class Action Settlement
TCA readers are starting to receive checks worth up to $152 in the AMD CPUs class action settlement, stemming from a class action lawsuit in which Advanced Micro Devices Inc. allegedly misrepresented the number of “cores” in their AMD FX CPUs.
The $12.1 million class action lawsuit settles claims that the defendants “Bulldozer” lines of CPUs were marketed as having “8 cores” but the plaintiffs complain that the products only contained four cores.
The settlement provided compensation for each CPU purchased, but the exact amount was based on the number of claims and the number of products claimed.
The AMD CPUs class action settlement states that Class Members could claim up to five CPU purchases without providing proof of purchase. If Class Members wanted to claim more than five, they would have needed to provide proof of purchase in the form of receipts or other type of documentation.
The deadline for submitting a claim form was Jan. 3, 2020.
The plaintiffs were represented by Rafey S. Balabanian and Todd Logan of Edelson PC.
The AMD CPUs Class Action Lawsuit is Dickey v. Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Case No. 4:15-cv-04922, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Does anyone know what happened to the Drywall indirect purchase class action case ? I received a letter the beginning of March stating that I would get a check for $100 by April 1st . Haven’t heard anything . Has anyone else ?
i received the same letter. I still havent received my $100. I emailed them but I got no response
Not a word…
I called the law firm in the middle of April and they said there is still one more portion of the suit to get final approval from the judge. They go to court this month for that, and she told me to call back in the middle of May to find out where everything is. You can check the settlement website too for updates.
Let’s not forget folks that many places were shut down including
the courts.
Thank the Rona for that.
Be patient.
