LifeLock FTC Refund Checks

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is sending out more than $31 million in refund checks to consumers who were members of LifeLock between 2012 and 2014 and who have not received payment in connection with a settlement.

The refund checks are funded by a 2015 $100 million settlement reached between LifeLock Inc. and the FTC. The settlement resolved claims that LifeLock violated a 2010 FTC data security order which required the identify theft protection company to keep consumer information safe and prohibited LifeLock from using deceptive advertising.

According to the FTC, LifeLock violated this order by failing to take security measures that would keep consumer information safe. The company allegedly further violated the order with deceptive advertising claiming that they protected consumer information with high level security systems and provided 24/7/365 identity theft alerts “as soon as” a threat was detected.

LifeLock agreed to settle the lawsuit allegations against them for $100 million. $68 million of this settlement was set aside to refund consumers who were part of a similar LifeLock class action lawsuit. Those consumers have already received payment. For consumers who have not yet received payment from a LifeLock settlement, the remaining money from the $100 settlement is being used to fund refund checks.

The FTC refund checks are, on average, worth $29. If you receive a check from the FTC, you should cash it within 60 days. Further questions about the refund checks can be directed to the refund administrator Rust Consulting at 1-866-898-5106.

Business Coaching Refund Checks

The FTC is also sending out $2 million in refund checks to consumers who were duped into paying for business coaching services.

According to the FTC, the business coaching scheme operated under the names of Coaching Department, Apply Knowledge, and more. These businesses allegedly defrauded customers by telling them that they would be able to earn thousands of dollars in a single month if they purchased services. Unfortunately, these representations are reportedly false and only con consumers into purchasing unhelpful services.

Some consumers who bought services allegedly lost thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt in order to pay for the products and establish their internet business. Despite representations that they could quickly earn this money back, consumers were allegedly left with long term debt and financial damage.

Five marketers and companies agreed to a settlement ordering them to pay a combined $19,214,950.40. Due to financial situations, this judgement will be partially suspended and defendants will only have to pay around $1 million. However, the defendants will have to pay the full amount if they have misrepresented their financial problems.

According to the FTC, 12,479 will be sent out to consumers averaging $169 each. Like with the LifeLock FTC refund checks, consumers should cash their checks within 60 days if they receive one. Further questions can be directed to the refund administrator Analytics Consulting at 1-844-982-1005.
