Fans who planned to attend practice for the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix filed a class action lawsuit in Nevada state court after police and security forced them to leave the venue early Friday morning following extensive practice delays, according to Sports Illustrated’s Fan Nation.
The lawsuits name Liberty Media Corporation and TAB Contractors Inc. as defendants. The first practice lasted just nine minutes when it was delayed due to a loose water valve cover that damaged several cars, including that of Carlos Sainz Jr., Fan Nation reported.
F1 offered fans who had single-night tickets for Thursday $200 at the official race merchandise shop, according to The Associated Press.
Las Vegas-based Dimopoulos Law Firm and co-counsel JK Legal and Consulting filed the Las Vegas Grand Prix class action on behalf of fans in Nevada state court, asking for at least $30,000 in damages, AP reports.
“We cannot comment on the litigation,” a Las Vegas Grand Prix spokesperson told Fan Nation. “Our focus is on ensuring that our fans have an entertaining experience in a safe and secure environment which is always our top priority.”

The water valve cover issue led to a 2.5-hour delay in practice, and the second practice session did not begin until 2:30 a.m., lasting 90 minutes, the AP reports.
An estimated 35,000 fans attended the practice, Fan Nation reports.
The lawsuit accuses the defendants of breach of contract, negligence and engaging in deceptive trade practices, Fan Nation says.
