Rael feminine wipes class action overview:
- Who: A feminine wipes consumer sued Rael.
- Why: The plaintiff says the company’s feminine wipes are falsely marketed as “natural.”
- Where: The Rael feminine wipes class action was filed in a California federal court.
A feminine wipes consumer sued Rael, alleging the company’s products are falsely marketed as “natural” when they contain synthetic ingredients.
Plaintiff Sarah Blansette filed the class action complaint against Rael Inc. on Jan. 3 in a California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the lawsuit, Rael makes and sells a range of feminine hygiene products marketed as “natural and organic feminine care products.”
However, despite the representations made on the products’ labels and marketing that lead consumers to believe that the products are “natural,” they are not, Blansette alleges.
“Despite this representation, the Products are not natural because they include multiple synthetic ingredients,” the Rael class action claims.
Rael feminine wipes contain synthetic ingredients, lawsuit alleges
The lawsuit refers specifically to Rael’s Natural Feminine Wipes but says this is not an exhaustive list of falsely marketed products under the brand.
Blansette says the purportedly “natural” products contain the following synthetic ingredients: Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol and Butylene Glycol.
“Defendant did not disclose that the above listed ingredients are synthetic ingredients anywhere on the Product,” the Rael class action states, pointing out that many consumers do not have the specialty knowledge to realize that these ingredients are synthetic
Blansette looks to represent a nationwide class of Rael consumers plus a multistate class of consumers from California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Washington and a California class.
She sued under state consumer law and for unjust enrichment and seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
Class action lawsuits against beauty and wellness companies are common. Consumers filed lawsuits against a range of cosmetic companies recently, including L’Oreal, Target, Burt’s Bees, Murad, Almay, Grande Cosmetics, Neutrogena and Clinique, among others.
