hilton hotel signHilton Worldwide Holdings has been hit with a class action lawsuit by customers who claim that they were duped into paying a higher price for hotel rooms than were advertised.

Plaintiff Sanna Jesse claims that Hilton is misrepresenting to customers the price that they can anticipate to pay for their hotel rooms.

The Hilton class action lawsuit states, “Hilton makes matters worse by never adequately informing consumers of the increased room rate until after they check out of the hotel.”

For example, the plaintiff claims that she booked a room at a Hampton Inn & Suites for $134 for one night and $129 for the second night. After she stayed at the hotel, she was charged $258 for both nights, which resulted in a loss of $253.

As another example, the plaintiff claims that she booked a room at the Hampton Inn & Suites and was quoted a rate of $134 for the first night and $129 for the second night. After she stayed at the hotel, she was charged a rate of $268 for the first night and $258 for the second night, which resulted in a loss of $263.

The plaintiff alleges that, as a result of Hilton’s misleading pricing, customers are paying more for a hotel room than they had anticipated.  

In addition, the class action lawsuit claims that Hilton hides that their prices are not going to be as advertised, which deceives customers into booking a room at one of their hotels.

Also, the Hilton class action lawsuit says that Hilton did not follow standard practice in showing a page view that clearly displays what the total price of the transaction is going to be.

“Additionally, Plaintiff and class members have purchased hotel rooms they would not otherwise have purchased, or would have paid less for, had they known the true pricing,” the Hilton class action complaint claims.

The Hilton class action lawsuit alleges that there was no reference to any upcharge in the materials the plaintiff received from Hilton.

“Hilton is misrepresenting the price that consumers can expect to pay for their hotel rooms…[H]ilton promises consumers a lower room rate during the booking process, but then increases the room rate at check out,” the Hilton class action lawsuit alleges.

The plaintiff states that she was not offered a refund by Hilton, which resulted in an economic loss.

Putative Class Members include, “All natural persons or entities domiciled in the United States or its territories who booked hotel rooms at any United States hotel within the Hilton family of hotels (e.g., Hilton, Conrad, Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Home2Suites, Waldorf Astoria, Hampton and Tru) and who were charged rates higher than those quoted at the time of booking for the type of room booked.”

The Hilton class action lawsuit claims that the hotel chain violates Section 2 of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act as well as claims of breach of contract, promissory estoppel, common law fraud, and unjust enrichment.

The plaintiff is represented by William M. Sweetnam of Sweetnam LLC.

    I’ll just start with, the hotel and accommodations are good. The close proximity to market street is worth mentioning. I booked my stay through a third party travel site. (RCI) Although I’ve booked through RCI many times before, It was apparently, not the best resource in this instance. I was never explained their mandatory fees until I was checking out. You should be prepared for an almost $100 more in fees for a 2 night stay. It’s $28.50/day for Premium WiFi. advertised on their website says free wfi, not that I was given a choice. The fee also includes the $10 food credit they give you at check in. Maybe by accepting their coupon, you are agreeing to their deceptive charges. It also includes fitness classes? which I wasn’t given a schedule, sports equipment? beverage pantries, (which they cleverly removed all coffee makers out of their rooms. Again, I could have used my coupon at the restaurant for coffee. I also includes 1 museum ticket, only if you ask for it. plus it includes a $1 service fee? an a $2.50 destination charge? On top of that, they charge $16/ day for parking in a garage adjacent to their property that is owned by the city. (the city, according to their published rates, charge $8/day including overnight parking. Hilton is marking this rate up 100% I read in a blog that people had their items stolen from cars and they denounced any liability whatsoever. And by the way it’s free to park there on Sundays and Holidays. I do take responsibility for not visiting the Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain web site prior to my arrival.
    When I questioned them about the charges, I was told it was for parking overnight. They did take the parking charges off my bill, which I didn’t ask for because I did know about their parking fees. they also gave me 5500 bonus points to Hilton Honors program. (when I signed onto their internet and gave personal information in order to sign on, they gave me 4500 points) The assistant manager wanted to accommodate me so she said she would give me 20000 points. She called me shortly after I left and stated she could only authorize 10000. when I got home 10000 was in my account but the previous 4500 were gone.
    It is my opinion that these policies are deceptive at best.

    I stayed at the embassy suits was posed to be charge 99 dollars a night instead I was charged double on some nights and 153 some nights caused big overdraft in account

      I made online reservations at the Hilton midtown NYC as I have done numerous time. BUT this time they placed me in there “Residence” with NO warning that all usually amenities (gym, executive lounge & points) are off limits. You pay twice the rate and receive zero services. Very deceitful.
