Around 20 million consumers use Plex as a way to stream audio and video and to upload photos of themselves, among other things.

Plex reassured its user that any passwords compromised in the data breach have been hashed and secured and that the inappropriately accessed data was limited, The Verge reports.

The company also told users that there was no indication that any other account information, including private media libraries that could contain sensitive content, had been compromised in the Plex data breach.

Plex data breach did not compromise financial information, company says

There was also no indication that Plex users’ financial information was in danger on account of the data breach with the company reassuring its users that no credit card or other payment data is stored on their servers, The Verge reports.

Plex also disclosed that it had discovered the reason for the data breach and that it has taken measures to make sure the same security flaw is not taken advantage of again going forward.

“We’ve already addressed the method that this third-party employed to gain access to the system, and we’re doing additional reviews to ensure that the security of all of our systems is further hardened to prevent future incursions,” The Verge reports that the company says.

Plex advises its users to change their passwords and to enable two-factor authentication for their Plex accounts going forward, The Verge reports.

In related data breach news, last month, Twitter confirmed it was the victim of a data breach that exposed the personal information of 5.4 million of the social networking company’s users.
