Women across the country are seeking out their own Essure attorney, after allegedly incurring injuries soon after the permanent contraceptive was implanted.

However, recent studies have suggested the Essure birth control may be more risky compared to tube tying, with one study indicating Essure patients were ten times more likely to require revision surgery due to complications.

The study was published in the British Medical Journal, which found 2.9% of Essure and 0.2% of tubal ligation patients who needed follow up care, respectively.

The FDA has recently ordered Bayer to conduct new clinical trials on the Essure birth control device and also required the Essure label to be updated to include a “Black Box” warning about serious complications.

Overview of Essure Birth Control Problems

The Essure birth control was approved through the FDA’s fast track approval process, with many critics stating that the device had been approved without being adequately evaluated. Since its approval, there have been thousands of Essure injury reports submitted to the FDA.

Some women who experienced Essure injuries had to undergo hysterectomy to have the device removed, and even experienced unwanted pregnancies or very risky pregnancies. Even though this device is supposed to give women a convenient alternative to surgical sterilization, some patients had suffered further complications instead.
