- Where: The alert is effective in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
AWhite Oak Pastures has issued a health alert for its ground beef sold at Mom’s Organic Markets across six states due to potential metal contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) discovered the issue after two customer complaints, although no illness has been reported.
The health alert was issued on March 23 for ground beef produced on Feb. 26. The affected product is packaged in 16oz vacuum-packed packages labeled “White Oak Pastures, Radically Traditional Farming, Grassfed Ground Beef.” It bears the establishment number “EST 34729” inside the USDA mark of inspection and is stamped with “105761 Sell by 03/19/26” on the back.
According to the FSIS, the product is no longer available for purchase, which is why no official beef recall has been initiated. The agency advises consumers to check their freezers and discard or return the product if found.
“The FSIS remains concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers,” the alert states.
No recall issued: Consumers advised to check for affected ground beef
The FSIS has urged consumers who recently purchased White Oak Pastures ground beef to check their freezers for the affected product.
Although the ground beef is no longer available for purchase, the potential for metal contamination poses a significant health risk.
“Anyone who may be concerned about an injury should contact a health care provider,” the FSIS advises. The product was distributed to Mom’s Organic Markets in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., making it crucial for consumers in these areas to be vigilant.
White Oak Pastures is advising customers to either discard the affected ground beef or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. For further assistance, consumers can contact White Oak Pastures directly at 229-641-2081 or via email at [email protected].
White Oak Pastures reports that no injuries or illnesses have been linked to the ground beef health alert so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the alert, but Top Class Actions monitors such situations closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Last month, CS Beef Packers issued a recall for more than 22,000 pounds of raw ground beef products due to potential contamination with E. coli O145, affecting California, Idaho and Oregon.
