Wawa milk recall overview:

  • Who: Wawa Beverage Company is recalling several milk products, totaling 21,824 units.
  • Why: The recall is due to the potential presence of plastic foreign materials in the milk.
  • Where: The recall is effective in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Wawa Beverage Company is recalling multiple Wawa milk flavors after discovering plastic contamination on the fill lines of bottles. The recall affects 2% milk, double Dutch chocolate milk, cookies and cream milk and low-fat chocolate milk, distributed across several East Coast states.

The recall, initiated on Feb. 17, involves 16 oz (pint) bottles of Wawa Reduced Fat Milk 2%, Double Dutch Chocolate Milk, Cookies & Cream Milk and Chocolate Low-fat Milk.

Each product is categorized under a Class II recall, indicating that exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, but the likelihood of serious harm is remote.

“A class II recall is a situation in which use of or exposure to a product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” the Wawa recall states.

Wawa’s recall is part of a broader issue affecting the Northeastern United States, where other brands have also faced similar contamination concerns.

Wawa milk recall urges consumers to return affected milk products for refund

The recall notice urges consumers to immediately discontinue use of the affected milk products and return them to the place of purchase for a refund, or discard them.

The Food and Drug Administration’s enforcement report for this incident is documented under Event ID 98480, detailing the risk and scope of the contamination.

Wawa is actively working to address the issue by removing all affected products from store shelves and advising consumers to check their Wawa milk bottles for specific universal product codes to ensure they are not part of the recall.

For more information about the Wawa milk recall, consumers can visit the FDA’s website or contact Wawa’s customer service for assistance.

Wawa says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
