Toyota recall overview:

  • Who: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling more than 43,000 non-hybrid 2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles.
  • Why: The recall is due to debris from the manufacturing process potentially contaminating the engine, leading to a main bearing failure and engine stall.
  • Where: The Toyota recall is effective in the United States.

Toyota has issued a recall for more than 43,000 of its 2024 Toyota Tundra trucks due to potential engine stalling caused by manufacturing debris. This defect could result in a loss of drive power, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall, announced on May 20, affects specific non-hybrid models of the 2024 Toyota Tundra equipped with a V35A engine.

According to the recall details, debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine, causing a main bearing to fail and potentially leading to an engine stall.

“In the subject vehicles, an engine stall while driving leads to a loss of motive power,” the Toyota recall notice states.

Recall says drivers should look out for warning signs from engine

The recall notice highlights that engine knocking, rough running and a no-start condition can occur in affected vehicles, especially when driving at high speeds. These serve as warning signs for drivers to seek immediate attention.

The Toyota Tundra recall impacts over 43,566 trucks, but only about 1% are estimated to have the defect. The engines involved in this recall were produced with additional controls intended to remove manufacturing debris, a measure that was evidently insufficient.

Toyota is currently developing a remedy for the issue. Once available, the repairs will be conducted free of charge. Owners will receive notification letters between July 6 and 20, informing them of the Toyota recall and the steps to take.

For more information, consumers can contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331. This line is available for those who suspect their vehicle might be affected by the recall.

Toyota says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Toyota recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Recently, Toyota was hit with a class action lawsuit claiming the automaker sold 2025 Toyota Sienna minivans with defective seat rails and failed to offer timely repairs.
