SunRun Deceptive Marketing Class Action Lawsuit

By Matt O’Donnell

SunRun Inc.SunRun Inc. has been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging the San-Francisco-based solar energy company deceived consumers into leasing SunRun solar panels by making misleading claims about their cost savings and about the increasing costs of electricity.

Plaintiff Shaw Reed alleges in the SunRun class action lawsuit that the company misled consumers into believing they could save money on “rising electricity costs” by using SunRun solar panels despite the fact that the energy prices at Southern California Edison began dipping or plateauing after 2008.

“The central premise of SunRun’s uniform marketing campaign is that increases in electricity prices will result in cost savings by installing the SunRun Solar system,” Reed says in the SunRun class action lawsuit. “But SunRun deceptively states with certainty something that is inherently unknowable.”

Reed further alleges in the SunRun class action lawsuit that the company was operating without a business license from 2007 to February 2012. The class action lawsuit is seeking a refund on customer fees from contracts entered into before 2012.

The SunRun class action lawsuit also claims company agents misleadingly told consumers they could terminate their SunRun contracts if they move.

The SunRun class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons and entities in the state of California who entered into a solar power contract with SunRun prior to February 2012. It is also seeking to represent a subclass of all Class Members who were told by SunRun that they could terminate their contracts without further obligation if they moved.

The SunRun Class Action Lawsuit case is Shawn Reed v. SunRun Inc., Case No. BC498002, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

I would like to be apart of this. We signed a contract in November of 2021 and we have been strung all along the way. It’s been 2 1/2 and they are still not running because they took over a year to get everything up and pass inspections so finances expired. They tried getting us to redue the fiance loans and obviously they fell through too and now they want us to pay them $63k in full for a breach of contract.

    1. Jennifer Perez says:

i am a very upset SunRun customer, from day one, 2021, this “company” has been a nightmare, but wait you have to actually speak to someone for them to know you before it becomes a nightmare. for the first years, i heard nothing, zero from SunRun, i was even naïve enough to send them the emails i was receiving from the state to close the deal, after 1K emails later, i called because i saw none to very little in savings, i called them and PSEG, then sunrun called, great! not really, after two months after that i saw a very large dip in my electrical bill, but then up it went. now they are sending me the SuSi and ADI certification forms with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on it! i mean no numbers, not even my name and address until the last page of the form, there should be numbers like projected usage and such but NOTHING, they keep asking me to sign the form, i say show me the numbers, they wont.
this company is broken or too large to give a damn but i rue the day i meant that goddam sales guy, prick.
there many more examples i have too many to fit on here but i am at the point of grabbing my sledge hammer and smash them and sweep the pieces off my roof. typical, you as a concerned person of the planet, the same stupid people make this shit all about the money. well you know what they say..” money is the root of all evil” amen

    1. Mary Nix says:

I was with a solar company called GRNE, apparently they were bought by a company called Nelnet. Nelnet now wants to charge approximately 38,000. That was not the deal I agreed to.

I was with a solar company called GRNE, apparently they were bought by a company called Nelnet. Nelnet now wants to charge approximately 38,000. That was not the deal I agreed to. This is causing me an extreme amount of stress. There was supposed to be a state portion paid, and a federal tax credit. I am a senior citizen and living on a very reduced income. Not to mention that my property taxes went unexpectedly by quiet a bit. Is there anything I can do?

    3. Mrs Perez says:

We definotly need to join the lawsuit info please. They over promise. They install the solar panels and when the roof leaks they send you to make an insurance clai. When they know the insurance is nor liable and is not going pay for a roof that was damaged becase of the system instLation. When they sell you they tell you that your roof is in great shape to install that if it would it have been otherwise the inspection would have failed. Than when the leaks apear they refuse to cover. Gets even better sends you roofer that evalyates the cost half cost. Sunrun says that they will send you a check for their contracters estimate that we must pay the difference yet that check is never sent. We can’t let them continue their fraudulent practices.

    4. Aaron Layer says:

I want to be part of this lawsuit.

      1. Kathleen Ruane says:

Yes I and my husband want to join this law suit we are in Goodyear Az
