An Ohio woman filed a metal hip lawsuit against Stryker alleging she was injured by the Stryker metal hip implant product.
On May 23, 2011, Plaintiff Anna T. underwent a total hip replacement surgery at her local hospital where she was implanted with the allegedly defective Stryker hip replacement product. Two years later, Anna began experiencing Stryker metal hip implant complications:
“After the surgery, fretting and corrosion from the [Stryker Metal Hip Implant] (between the modular cobalt-chromium neck and titanium femoral stem) proximately caused large amounts of toxic metal ions and particles to be released from the Device which were circulating throughout Plaintiff’s blood stream, organs, and soft tissue. As a result, it caused Plaintiff to suffer pain, physical damage, discomfort and inflammation in and around the soft tissue of the Defective Device.”
Because of the pain Anna experienced in her groin and left thigh that have resulted in a limping gait, her metal hip lawsuit said, the physician who implanted Anna with the Stryker hip implant two years prior recommended that the plaintiff undergo a painful, expensive, and even risky hip revision surgery in May 2013.
According to the Stryker metal hip implant lawsuit, “Revision surgeries of the femoral hip stem are more invasive and technically complex than the original hip replacement surgery since the femoral stem has to removed, rather than simply replacing the bearing surfaces.” Anne will require years of continuous medical treatment because of the allegedly defective Stryker Rejuvenate metal hip replacement product.
Anna alleges several claims against Stryker in this metal hip replacement lawsuit, including counts of manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of warranties, and negligent misrepresentation.
The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages, attorney’s fees, court fees, and any other relief deemed fit by the court.
The Stryker Metal Hip Implant Lawsuit is Case No. 0:13-cv-02548-DWF-FLN, in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota.
History of Stryker Metal Hip Replacements
The Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II modular hip implants are uniquely designed medical devices that have distinguished themselves from similar products on the hip implant market, because of the modular neck stems, adjustable pieces that allow for variations in a patient’s femoral component length.
Metal hip implants like the Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II, are expected to last 15 to 20 years. However, according to recent reports, Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II modular hip implants allegedly begin to corrode and fail only two years after hip replacement surgery, as was the case with Anna T. Because of metal hip implant complication associated with the Stryker products, The Stryker Rejuvenate and the ABGII were recalled in July 2012.
As a result of the possible side effects and complications resulting from a failed hip implant and resulting hip implant explantation surgery, many consumers have filed Stryker metal hip implant lawsuits or are joining Stryker metal on metal hip implant class action lawsuits.
