RCI Points Program Class Action Settlement

By Sarah Pierce

RCI settlementTimeshare company RCI, LLC has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it improperly rented timeshare inventory to non-members. If you participated in RCI’s Points Exchange Program, you may be eligible to file a claim for a cash payment.

The RCI settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Glenz v. RCI, that alleges RCI rented certain timeshare inventory deposited by members of the RCI Point Exchange Program to non-members, rather than make that inventory available for exchange solely for members.

RCI denies it did anything wrong, but has agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.

Class Members of the RCI points program settlement include all U.S. residents who were members of the RCI Points Exchange Program, either directly or through a vacation club, on or before April 25, 2012.

Class Members of the RCI class action lawsuit settlement will receive one of the following cash benefits, as long as they submit a valid claim form by the deadline of August 24, 2012:

(1) Current RCI Point Exchange Program members will receive a $12 cash payment;
(2) Former RCI Point Exchange Program members will receive a $10 cash payment.

Claim forms and more information on your rights in the RCI Points Program Class Action Settlement are available at www.PointsProgramSettlement.com.

Why does the government allow such compiles to operate?
I asked for an account copy of payments. Georgian Bay was putting half of the payment in their account and the other half went to the account minus a number of fees and charges. Out of $250.00 payment, we were receiving less than $50.00 credit towards account and then charged interest ,etc on that.
This is so obviously a scam, why does the government not protect the taxpayers.
When they just took money out of my credit card account and I asked for an audit from Georgian Bay, they refused to give it to me. I had to cancel my American Express Account, to stop them. They are fraudulent.
Because they get away with this, more and more scam outfits are created.
They are phoney companies started to help you to either sell or get your original payments back. They take your fee and then do nothing.

It should be made public so others are protected. Their sales people are hard core. Time shares, either weeks or points should not be legal, and those operating them should be charged by law.
Most people are unable to cope with these companies and their staff.

I just found out that for RCI Platinum members, the website does not reflect the correct number of points we are allowed to use for travel. After 5 days on the phone and receiving wrong information from a number of people, I was told by a manager that this is an ongoing problem and that the only way to use the 50% allocation is to make reservations on the phone.

I was wondering how many people have encountered that problem. How many people are not even aware that they are given less points than what they deserve.

It seems many have had issues booking through RCI. I admit, I have seen the shady side, like trying to book a place, and you find they have nothing available for “exchange”, but then you can purchase the week as a rental for $1000 or something like that. As owners/members, we should NEVER have prices thrown in our faces when we ALREADY PAID for the use of these units!!!

Admittedly, I have not had a difficult time getting into units I want, but I do have to plan them well in advance. For example, I have a trip to Hawaii planned in Sept. 2014…but I already have that booked now, in 2013. If you have the flexibility of being able to book early, it really does work in your favor, especially for the hot resorts/locations/destinations.

I have also seen that it appears RCI manipulates the inventory. I was holding a 2BR/2BA unit in Vegas, just waiting another day or 2 until I was sure I’d be clear on those dates. Well, I was up at 7am EST two days ago, and I released my property, for the sole purpose of jumping back in and putting it back on hold for the day. What happened, you ask? Well, once I let the unit go, IT NEVER CAME BACK!!! I know that one one could have possibly booked it that fast. I had two internet browsers open…one where I released it and one where I was ready to place it on hold again. It just never appears again for me to book it. For some reason RCI did not allow that unit to show as ‘available’ again. I know it was…I just released it…so why did it not come back, even as I continued to check throughout the remainder of the day, and the next day??? Inventory Manipulation, folks. That is how you do it. Create the illusion of demand, when the demand really does not exist.

I have always been able to get the vacation packages I have requested. But I submit my request 9 months prior to the vacation date. RCI could create a better user friendly system.

$12 each for settlement?? Who were the lawyers? Did they work for RCI? It’s unbelievable that RCI has just gotten out of a lawsuit (joke that it was) and is still pulling the same stunts. I suggest if you are dissatisfied, to file a complaint with the Attorney General’s office. RCI is the most dishonest, corrupt company I have ever dealt with, and with all this feedback there are enough dissatisfied customers to get some action. They just cannot continue to STEAL from people. I am dissappointed to see what the class action results were, and RCI execs and mgt are just laughing all the way to the bank. I can hear them “Look, we got tens of thousands of $$ from each of them, plus $1000 each year, and we only have to give back $12. Winning!!” Give people what they’ve paid for, and make an honest company out of RCI.

    1. Sandy says:

I agree with you…RCI is a scam and there is no way out! If you have any information on who to call to get results please let me know asap! Thank You!

horrible practice taking advantage of people trying to fing a way to have a great trip at lower rates and when I look I cant find anything available whilst resorts have the rooms and offer them as rentals instead. I feel this is a theft of our hard earned money. What is this guarentee with points websites that if you read their fine print covers nothing. I find flights available on other sites and rci points posts rediculous flights and none Im veiwing . this should be restructered too help us not hurt us

  10. Anonymous says:

RCI didn’t have any units to exchange, but could purchase a week at the resort for $900. I’ve never been able to use the points for a few days and pay the lower fee. The points program for hotel and car rental is a joke. I got lower prices going directly to the hotel or car rental. We paid extra to be points members because of the benefits. What benefits?????
