Pella ProLine WindowsPella Corporation has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over alleged defects in its ProLine series of windows that allegedly cause rotting in the surrounding wood. If approved, the class action settlement will cover a nationwide Class of consumers who purchased ProLine casement, awning and transom windows made by Pella from 1991 to 2006.

Under the proposed class action lawsuit settlement, consumers may be eligible to receive between $750 and $6,000. The Pella ProLine settlement also provides benefits beyond the warranty to consumers whose windows may suffer wood rot in the future.

Lead Plaintiff Dr. Leonard Saltzman sued Pella in 2006 alleging that he began to notice some of his window frames were rotting 10 years after installing ProLine casement windows in his new home, but the windows were no longer under warranty. Saltzman alleged the windows had a design defect that allows water to seep behind the aluminum cladding and cause wood rot.

Pella denies the allegations and maintains wood rot can be caused by many different reasons, but said in a statement last week that it is “pleased to have created a settlement framework that extends our existing customer support program with a claims process” for older windows.

“In the overwhelming majority of cases, our Pella windows performed extremely well and as designed,” Pella’s CEO said. “We know that each home or building is unique and the settlement is designed to address the relatively small number that may have experienced a problem.”

Built home in 2001 using 38 casement windows of different sizes + 3 6′ sliders. So far sliders had to be repaired and one casement replaced. The Pella service man said to put a bead of silicon across the bottom of the window above the aluminum frame to prevent water from getting behind the Aluminum. I am looking into repairing windows by using epoxy.

What is the status of the class action for Pella Windows? My windows are getting bad and I cannot even contact Pella to replace the wood rot. Any updates are appreciated!

I built my 5000 sq ft home in 1998. We have over 75 Pella Windows with half being a casement window. I have already replaced 10 casement windows with another 8 windows with beginning signs of wood rot on the lower part of the window. Pella refuses to honor any warranty and I keep paying to replace. This is a poorly designed product. The Pella rep claims it is the harsh weather here in Buffalo NY. We need to start another class action suit. The rep claims also that my windows are not the ProLine windows that had the problems in the past. Go figure??

My home was built in 2002 with the best casement windows Pella sold, enclosed mini blinds the works! Wanted the best so bought the best or so we thought? The bottom just dropped out of one and three other are about to go, haven’t checked the other 14 yet but will over the next couple of weeks. The rubber seal was hanging out of one so we opened it and tried to reattach it only to find a big part dropped out on our deck, after further inspection the aluminum cladding across the bottom fell off reveling the sad truth about these over priced pieces of junk and now all I can think about is how much is this going to cost! I wanted to put $20K in upgrades not window replacement at 12 years old!!!!!!! Glad the appeal stopped the settlement, it would only have helped the lawyers and original guy that filed? Sic in Ohio!!!

This lawsuit was the biggest waste of my time. I completed the package and sent in photos of all 17 windows that had damage only to learn that the settlement was overturned thus no money for anyone except the lawyers who started the claim.

I put Pella windows in my home that I built in 1997. I had problems with some windows a few years ago. Now u have problems with many more window. I have a very big house. I have over 70 windows that I bought in97. I paid Pella 30 grand. I installed all the windows myself so there was no labor cost. I feel totally beaten by Pella because Pella window should not fall apart like these windows do. I could use some help from Pella. HELP

  9. Nancy Lambrecht says:

I just happened to go on line to see how we can go about fixing our pro line windows that we had installed in our new custom home in 1999. We thought that we were upgrading to a really good window. What a joke! The seals are broken in 4 of the windows and the cranks have fallen off of many of them and we don’t even open them that much. We have a rotted window in our basement that needs to be totally replaced. These windows are junk and very disappointing for a well known name of supposedly a reputable window company. I am going to call pella and see what can be done. Very maddening!!!!!!!

  10. Francis Reno says:

There is no pella settlement, they want me to pay 8K to have them replace their 13 rotten windows, 3 of which are their replacements of original windows that rotted earlier. Replace with pella and you will be doing it again and again in short order. FORGET PELLA AND TELL A FRIEND.
