Pella Corporation has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over alleged defects in its ProLine series of windows that allegedly cause rotting in the surrounding wood. If approved, the class action settlement will cover a nationwide Class of consumers who purchased ProLine casement, awning and transom windows made by Pella from 1991 to 2006.
Under the proposed class action lawsuit settlement, consumers may be eligible to receive between $750 and $6,000. The Pella ProLine settlement also provides benefits beyond the warranty to consumers whose windows may suffer wood rot in the future.
Lead Plaintiff Dr. Leonard Saltzman sued Pella in 2006 alleging that he began to notice some of his window frames were rotting 10 years after installing ProLine casement windows in his new home, but the windows were no longer under warranty. Saltzman alleged the windows had a design defect that allows water to seep behind the aluminum cladding and cause wood rot.
Pella denies the allegations and maintains wood rot can be caused by many different reasons, but said in a statement last week that it is “pleased to have created a settlement framework that extends our existing customer support program with a claims process” for older windows.
“In the overwhelming majority of cases, our Pella windows performed extremely well and as designed,” Pella’s CEO said. “We know that each home or building is unique and the settlement is designed to address the relatively small number that may have experienced a problem.”

In the same boat, build house in 1994 installed all Pella ProLine windows and patio door. Several windows are rotting inside the glass and am wondering if there is anything that can be done.
I emailed Lang law firm last week….I have not received a reply.
I bought 14 pro line from Lowes in 1999, and they replaced one, and the second one i had to pay for. They said they were Out of warrenty, now I have another three that rotted out. I can’t find my receipt, but I believe I should fall under that class action suit.help!
Yep same problem here! Home built in 2003/2004 we are the original owners of the home. Pella never notified us there was a problem or that a lawsuit had been filed and we might be eligible for a settlement. All of our windows are affected and I feel we should have been. I am pissed! R. Bellamy – Omaha, Nebraska
Our home was built in 1998 and all of our Pella casement windows are rotten. We have removed the crank handles from some to prevent them from being opened and falling out. We completed the claim form including photos and never heard anything. A co-worker has the same problem, completed claim and never a response. Pella should at least be made to make proper sash replaceo available. They have no business still manufacturing windows if they can’t stand behind their products.
July 2015 Just bought a home and found out that I have 10 Pella casement windows completely rotten. Unable to open them. One I did and it fell apart! Is there a class action lawsuit going on, or am I stuck having to pay thousands to replace these faulty windows that Pella knows is faulty.
Also have the same problem with a door.
I just purchased a home that has over 40 Pella casement windows in it. The windows are rotten and the home was built in fall of 2003 making windows only 11 yrs old. It is to the point you can not open the windows. I opened two of the windows and the bottom mechanical part fell out of window leaving metal crank sticking out. I was able to get the window shut before winter but I will never be able to open again. I am sure the others are like these two. These have to be replaced. Do I have any recourse with Pella? How do I know if these are the windows involved? This was not a cheap house.
What is one to do if they have just experienced this window problem but were not aware of the class action deadlines?
My problem is the Pro Line French Door(s). Same problem as the windows. these doors are the very same design. Aluminum clad outside and wood inside. Same moisture problem and subsequent rotting wood. is this covered by the lawsuit? Help? anybody? Call to contact me 574.273.5082
