Onglyza heart failure diabetes hands checking blood sugarThe type-2 diabetes drug Onglyza has been updated with a new Onglyza FDA warning, now including the risks of heart failure on its labeling. Patients who have suffered from Onglyza side effects, including heart complications, may be able to file a lawsuit.

Basics of Onglyza Diabetes Drug

Onglyza is a popular type-2 diabetes drug used to control a patient’s blood sugar level. Onglyza (also known by its generic name, saxagliptin) is jointly manufactured by pharmaceutical giants AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Onglyza was first introduced to the market in 2009 after its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since then, Onglyza has skyrocketed in popularity. After only three years on the market, Onglyza was bringing in $709 million a year. Sales have continued to climb, and many expect that annual sales will soon hit $2 billion.

Onglyza is part of a group of diabetes drugs known as incretin mimetics. Incretin mimetics like Onglyza work to control blood sugar level by mimicking the body’s natural incretin hormones and simulating the release of insulin. While many patients have switched to Onglyza in recent years, they may be unaware of certain serious risks associated with the medication.

Of course, it is normal for any medication to come with certain side effects. Onglyza is no exception, and is linked with common side effects like upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, and headaches. However, these risks must be included in the medication’s warnings so that patients know the risks they are facing.

Recently, an Onglyza FDA warning was issued to alert patients to some of the more serious risks of the drug which were not previously included.

Updated Onglyza FDA Warning

The Onglyza FDA warning update came after an ever-growing number of patients who had taken Onglyza reported suffering from severe Onglyza side effects, including heart failure. The Onglyza FDA warning letter was sent to the drug’s manufacturers advising that the label be updated to include the risk of heart failure.

Filing an Onglyza Lawsuit

Hundreds of patients who have suffered from various Onglyza complications or side effects of similar drugs have begun filing lawsuits against the manufacturers of these drugs for failing to adequately warn the public and the medical community about Onglyza dangers.

According to Onglyza lawsuits, AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squbb, the drugs’ manufacturers, either knew or should have known about Onglyza heart failure.

If you or someone you love has suffered from heart failure after using Onglyza, you may be able to take legal action. Patients who have suffered from heart failure while using Onglyza before receiving the Onglyza FDA warning about this life-threatening side effect may be able to file a lawsuit.

Filing an Onglyza lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by Onglyza side effects like heart failure, nor can it bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to alleviate medical expenses and lost wages often incurred by these problems.
