According to the recall notice, this market action is a precautionary measure following traceback information linked to frozen blueberries that were initially recalled on July 3.
The Walmart recall aims to prevent illnesses associated with E. coli, which can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
Consumers advised to be vigilant for symptoms of E. coli infection
The frozen berry recall alert says consumers should be vigilant for symptoms of E. coli infection, which can appear two to eight days after exposure.
According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration report, the symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramping. In severe cases, the infection can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that affects the kidneys.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. is collaborating with regulatory authorities to manage the recall and ensure consumer safety. The company advises consumers to discard the affected frozen berries or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
