Hyundai recall overview:
- Who: Hyundai is recalling 46,787 vehicles, specifically the 2026 Hyundai Palisade and 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid models.
- Why: The Hyundai recall is due to a malfunction in the seat belt status indicator caused by potentially damaged internal wiring within the third-row driver-side seat belt buckle.
- Where: The recall is active in the United States.
Hyundai is recalling more than 46,000 vehicles due to a malfunction in the seat belt status indicator, which could fail to alert occupants if a seat belt is unfastened, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall notice was issued on March 20 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
It affects 2026 Hyundai Palisade and Palisade Hybrid models equipped with “Limited” and “Calligraphy” trim packages. The issue stems from damaged internal wiring in the third-row driver-side seat belt buckle, which may cause the vehicle to incorrectly display the seat belt as fastened when it is not.
“A faulty seat belt status indicator may fail to alert occupants to an unfastened seat belt, increasing the risk of injury,” the recall notice states.
Hyundai to offer free repairs for recalled Palisades
Hyundai has stated that owners of the affected models will receive notification letters by May 18.
Hyundai is taking proactive steps to address the issue by offering free repairs to affected vehicle owners. Dealers will install a wiring harness extension and replace the seat belt assembly as necessary to ensure the safety of the vehicle occupants.

Hyundai says it has not received any reports of injury related to the Palisade recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Currently, Hyundai is facing another lawsuit alleging it sold Tucson SUVs with defective automatic emergency braking systems despite being aware of the problem before bringing the vehicles to market.
