HoMedics TheraP “Magnetic Therapy” Product Class Action Lawsuit

By Kimberly Mirando

HoMedics TheraP wrapA HoMedics customer has filed a class action lawsuit against the wellness products manufacturer for selling TheraP “Magnetic Wave Technology” devices that purport to use the “Power of Magnets” to relieve pain but are actually medically useless.

“HoMedics has defrauded Californians by making blatant and provably false claims to market, advertise, and distribute a line of products labeled and advertised as possessing ‘Magnetic Wave Technology.’ Defendant falsely implies that the magnets have a therapeutic value, when in reality there is no scientific evidence that the magnets are of any therapeutic or any other health-related value,” the HoMedics class action lawsuit states.

Plaintiff Brad Post says he purchased a TheraP Knee Wrap product advertised on HoMedics’ website as containing the “Power of Magnets” and using “Magnetic Wave Therapy” to relive pain, but “the product was useless to him.”

Post says HoMedics makes the same misleading claims for a variety of TheraP Magnetic Wave Technology products, including the TheraP Wrist Wrap, Ankle Wrap and Elbow Wrap.

The belief that magnets can be therapeutic for treating pain is commonly known as “magnetic therapy,” but, according to his class action lawsuit, the National Science Foundation has classified magnetic therapy as “pseudoscience,” or “claims presented so that they appear to be scientific even though they lack supporting evidence and plausibility.”

“According to the National Science Foundation, there is no scientific basis for any belief that ‘magnetic therapy’ is effective in treating pain or any other ailment, and has concluded that ‘magnetic therapy’ has no scientific foundation,” the HoMedics TheraP class action lawsuit says.

The HoMedics class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons in California who purchased any of HoMedics’ TheraP Magnetic Wave Technology Products for personal use at any time within the past four years. It is asking the Court to recover “the many millions of dollars of profits generated by this false and misleading claim.”

The case is Brad Post v. HoMedics, Inc., Case No. RIC 1204417, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Riverside.

I worked as a legal secretary for 9 years and on days when I had a heavy load of typing to do the only thing that got me through it was my magnetic wrist wraps. I have used them on my arthritic ankles too and they work just as well for me there. I have lost my set of wrist wraps and have been trying desperately to purchase a couple of sets of them. Imagine my surprise in finding that the company is being sued over the sale of them claiming they don’t work. I hope that the company will again return to manufacturing and selling this product. I also have their magnetic back brace and it also is a life saver.

These products REALLY need to come back to market. Ive had a wrist wrap for years, but it got lost in a closet. Found it recently while looking for something else, but was glad I did as carpal tunnel has been bad. Put it on and no more pain! It even stops my hand going numb when even the braces dont work. I was hoping to get another magnetic wrap as mine is getting worn, and came online when I couldnt find them in any stores. Came across this and am just astounded someone would file such a ridiculous claim. Its clear that many people have benefitted from the use of magnets and its just crazy that one person saying they dont can get them pulled from shelves.

I love the Homedics TheraP wrist band.. I didn’t know anything about this class action against them. I have arthritis in my thumb, it was hurting last night. Felt so much better this morning. I had missed placed for several months , so glad I found it !!!!

  5. marilyn says:

my husband bought me the thera-p magnetic belt several years ago. the minute I put it on the pain stops. I have let several people who have back pain try it and they are amazed at how it stops the pain. in fact my son-in-law is wearing it right now and he is able to work pain free. I would like to purchase another one or 2, but cannot find exact one anywhere.

  6. Arnese Douglas says:

I won’t lie to you,I used frig magnets for about 4 years off and on and have pass what work for me on to others. And the results were the same, great. And I have left Homedics Thera P magnets on for 15 minutes and got results in, that short length of time. This type of therapy WORKS.

  7. Barbara Burg says:

Magnets really work for me..taking away pain, stiffness in joints, reducing swelling..go to Dr Wright web site at Takoma Clinic to see how his magnet machine is healing people. See his video!

  8. carol wiser says:

Totally cured intense neck pain after three hours of use! No medications worked! Went online to buy more Thera p, magnetic Wave kits for my brother and saw this baseless , whiners “lawsuit”! Just an egocentric
manipulator, and his lawyer is worse! . Get a life indeed! It didn’t “work” for him after a few minutes? Poor baby. I have used magnets for years for carpel tunnel pain with fabulous results. I too would be willing to “testify” without remuneration for this company. We need non invasive ,drug-free therapies in this country!

  9. Alice R. Luna says:

I have used them for my wrists and they have worked beautifully. Now I can NOT find them!!!!!
    I hope they come back……

  10. kathleen stewart says:

I love my Homedics knee brace it saved me from surgery after the doctor said there was no other way. I hate it that people have sued because this stuff worked so well for me. I was looking to buy more. There is too many of us very satisfied consumers to take this product off the market. I much rather do magnets than pain pills,
