Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford is recalling more than 119,000 Ford Focus, Escape and Lincoln MKC vehicles.
  • Why: A defect in the engine block heater could lead to a coolant leak and potential fire risk.
  • Where: The Ford recall is active in the United States.

Ford is recalling more than 119,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard linked to the engine block heater. The recall affects Ford Escape, Ford Focus and Lincoln MKC models.

A recall notice was issued on Jan. 15 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It applies to 2013-2019 Ford Escape, 2013-2018 Ford Focus and 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC models. Additionally, 2,633 engine block heaters produced between Oct. 7, 2011, and Jan. 8, 2026, are included in the recall. These heaters bear part numbers CV6Z-6A051-CA and CV6Z-6A051-AA.

The issue arises from the engine block heater, which may crack and develop a coolant leak, potentially causing a short circuit when plugged in.

This defect has been associated with 12 reported fires, primarily involving Ford Escape vehicles. “An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire,” the recall notice says.

Drivers advised to avoid using block heaters

The recall notice says owners of the affected vehicles should not plug in their block heaters until the issue is resolved.

Ford is taking proactive steps to address the issue by offering refunds or free replacements for the faulty engine block heaters. Ford dealers will reach out to customers with instructions on returning the part for a refund or replacing the block heater once a redesigned part is available.

In the meantime, Ford urges drivers not to use the engine block heaters to prevent any potential fire hazards.

Ford says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the Ford recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In a recent lawsuit, car owners are suing Ford Motor Co. for allegedly misleading consumers about the safety features of its 2024 F-150 Lightning trucks.

My 2017 Ford escape had less than 100,000 miles on it and it started loosing coolant i kept putting it in. Even called Ford dealer they told me what kind to put in it which of course that’s what was put in it changed oil brakes tires put alignment battery not even a few days later my car was smoking blowing out oil from tail pipes on top of motor. Got my car yo the Ford and all they would say was it needs a new motor. . Over $10,000 . I got another mechanic to check it and he said he didn’t want to touch it because for knew motor would do that. I got a pre litigation lawyer on it Ford acknowledged the problem. Lawyer said they were told months and months before this happened to me to recall those cars and replace a seal that they knew was not the right seal in the first place but they refused to recall. Now I’m stuck with no car. Bank filed on my credit as a charge off and ruining my credit when they have already collected for this car. I was told to file a class action case and it was being handled thru this and the Ford manufacturer would have to make it right by paying what I paid on car including down payment and my time and suffering or would have to replace my car. Which ever I wanted . I filed it in your top class action case and still haven’t heard anything. I’ve changed phones and emails because of hacked accounts. Exeter finance and the walts dodge conspired against me because I was on ssi and elderly and I had a down payment. Never reported payments. Told me I still owed 72 payments when I had paid on this car for 3-3half years put $4000 down. My our calculations the car is paid off . I was told $24,000 financed. This is crazy please help me

My wife’s 2013 Ford Escape caught on fire in the engine on the freeway on the way to work at 4:45am in 2018. There was a recall notice to fix this and they told us they would let us know when they have the parts to fix it but it caught fire before that happened. We tried to contact Ford, our insurance company tried to, and then lawyers hired by the insurance company tried to. Nobody could get a hold of anybody. They ignored us until our insurance company gave up.

the escape is a pos. it’s unfortunate because I was excited to get a practical car made in America. I will stick to foreign cars from here on out.
