Eliquis is the most recent addition to the line of new generation anticoagulants, which are often used to treat atrial fibrillation and prevent blood clot formation.
This medication is often prescribed to patients who had recently undergone a hip or knee surgery, when blood clot formation is likely.
However numerous patients have reported Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects, and complain that there is no reversal agent available to counteract these events.
Manufactured and released as a joint effort between Pfizer Inc. and Bristol Myers Squibb, Eliquis came onto the market in 2013.
During the time of its approval, predecessors Xarelto and Pradaxa were facing intense scrutiny for allegedly causing numerous internal bleeding incidents in patients.
When Eliquis had been released, it was marketed as a safer and more convenient blood thinner compared to its traditional anticoagulant warfarin.
Overview of Eliquis Bleeding Side Effects
Like other anticoagulants, Eliquis works by inhibiting the body’s clotting ability and improving the body’s circulation process.
However by doing this, Eliquis and other anticoagulants shut down the body’s natural ability to heal from internal bleeding events.
Simple internal bleeding injuries can become potentially fatal, with patients often needing hospitalization.
Even though Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects can be life threatening, Pfizer and Bristol Myers Squibb allegedly failed to disclose these problems to patients.
For five years after the new oral anticoagulants were on the market, none had a widely available bleeding antidote like warfarin.
While the manufacturers do warn patients to be careful to not sustain any physical injury that may cause bleeding, it does not specifically warn against Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects.
Internal bleeding injuries allegedly caused by Eliquis complications include:
- Bleeding on the brain
- Blood in the eyes
- Kidney bleeding
- Brain hemorrhage
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects can be potentially fatal, so early intervention is vital for survival. Symptoms of internal bleeding include:
- Blood in the urine
- Coughing up blood
- Bloody stools
- Nose bleeds
- Vomiting up blood
- Swelling
- Dizziness
- Joint Pain
- Headaches
Recent reports of Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects have contradicted previous marketing statements regarding product safety, resulting in numerous product liability claims.
Patients who allegedly suffered Eliquis uncontrollable bleeding side effects may be able to file legal action against the manufacturing companies. Potential claimants should contact a specialized lawyer to determine eligibility for an Eliquis bleeding lawsuit.

Eliquis gave me a life of a Zombie! Blindness in one eye after blindness in that eye after stroke. After ten months of Eliquis vision came back with blood in blind eye, with vision blurry so eye was not functional. Eliquis was discontinued after 18 moths, start coming back from Zombie mode to four years. Lots of test done a University of Iowa.
