Zumba has agreed to a $2.7 million class action settlement to resolve claims it violated the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by sharing purchase information with third parties.
The Zumba class action settlement benefits individuals who purchased the ZB1 OD version from the Zumba website between Oct. 22, 2022, and Oct. 22, 2024, and whose first and last names appeared on order confirmation pages shared with third-party advertisers.
The class action settlement also benefits three subclasses based on if their information was shared with Meta Platforms Inc., Pinterest Inc. and/or MNTN Inc.
According to claims made in the Zumba class action lawsuit resolved by this settlement, Zumba violated the VPPA by sharing purchase information with third parties, such as Meta, Pinterest and MNTN. The plaintiffs say Zumba shared their names and other personally identifiable information without their consent.
Zumba is an exercise program that combines dance and fitness. The company sells fitness products, such as the ZB1 OD version, through its website.
Zumba has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $2.7 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.
Under the terms of the Zumba class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of subclasses they belong to.
Class members who belong to one subclass will receive one share of the net settlement fund. Class members who belong to two subclasses will receive two shares of the net settlement fund. Class members who belong to all three subclasses will receive three shares of the net settlement fund.
According to the class action settlement website, each share will be worth at least $229.33. Exact payments may be higher or lower depending on the number of participating class members and the net settlement fund after deductions.
Class members who wish to opt out of the settlement or object to the settlement must do so no later than Dec. 14, 2026.
The final approval hearing for the Zumba class action settlement is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2027.
No claim form is required to benefit from the settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
