Bodum is recalling 5.9 million French Press coffee makers due to a significant risk of burn injuries. The Bodum French Press recall affects models with 8-cup and 12-cup replaceable carafes, including Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya models.
The recall was announced on Oct. 29 and applies to products sold nationwide at major retailers like Target and Walmart as well as online platforms, such as Amazon.com and Bodum.com.
According to the Bodum recall notice, “The carafe can unexpectedly break during use if the glass carafe is damaged or cracked, including by use of a metal spoon to stir the coffee, posing a risk of serious burn injuries.”
This defect has led to 70 incidents of carafes breaking, resulting in 48 burn injuries to consumers.
Consumers should avoid using metal utensils with coffee makers
Consumers are advised to stop using metal utensils with these coffee makers immediately and to contact Bodum for a free plastic stirring spoon and a warning label.
The label will caution against using damaged carafes and metal spoons to prevent further breakage and potential injuries.
Consumers can reach out to Bodum USA toll-free at 888-879-8213, email at [email protected] or visit its recall website for more information.
Reports indicate 70 incidents of carafes breaking, resulting in 48 burn injuries. Bodum is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
