Claim up to $225 in the Toshiba Satellite Broken Hinge Class Action Settlement

By Sarah Pierce

Do you own a Toshiba Satellite Laptop that has (or had) a broken hinge? You may be eligible for a cash reimbursement and other credits for the repair of your laptop under a class action settlement.

The Toshiba Satellite Broken Hinge Class Action Settlement (which we break down here) resolves a lawsuit that claims certain models of Toshiba Satellite laptops have manufacturing defects that make the plastic housing surrounding the hinges, and the hinges themselves, prone to cracking. The class action settlement provides up to $225 for each repair made to fix the broken hinges. Other qualifying owners will be eligible to receive a cash payment of $50 or a $150 credit voucher for future purchases at Toshiba Direct.

I found this website because I own a Toshiba Satellite C75D-7260 I purchased in 2014. The right hinge is so terrible that it caused the entire case to come apart. The corner containing the power button eventually cracked. While looking for a potential replacement case on eBay, I saw other people were selling their models of this laptop and others because of “broken cases” that would be used “only for parts” because of a “defective hinge.” I eventually found this lawsuit website. Toshiba did NOT stop making worthless hinges in their laptops after this lawsuit. There NEEDS to be ANOTHER lawsuit regarding the Toshiba Satellite C75D-7260 model that has identical problems with the “hinges.”

  3. Mike Cottrell says:

I have Satellite L55, right hinge broke within year 2, no help from Toshiba. I had it repaired at a local shop for just over $125 dollars. Now the left hinge is broken, separated behind the plastic screen cover just like the other side. This is such a poor design and defect. Anyone who ones a laptop with these hinges should get a complete factory recall and or repair.

    1. P. Viera says:

Same with mine both hinges and screen protector. This is old but I love this computer. I have seen replacement top with hinges on ebay, I am wondering if it will fit.

  4. Cheryl Baker says:

My hinges Are also broken, so now what do I do? It would be nice to have it fixed. I had to go buy another laptop so I could pay my bills

  5. Kelci Cell says:

    Same problems. Laptop finally died.

Please include me in any future settlement.

Both of my daughter’s hinges are broken. How do I claim the repairs?

    1. Top Class Actions says:

The settlement website is still active, but the claim form deadline was in 2010. You can try contacting the settlement administrator with your questions: http://www.satellitehingesettlement.com/info.php3

      1. Melissa O'Shields says:

I bought my Toshiba satellite radius in 2015. I had a problem with the back of screen and hinge cracking in 2019. I took it in for a repair which involved finding another screen and repairing hinge. I paid $250 however the new one began cracking the same way within a few months. I continued using it until it stopped working. I know it’s been 10 years since this class action settlement but I need help $$ to buy another laptop.

  10. jr says:

I hope a class class action starts. I am sending my laptop to be fixed with the right hinge broken.
