Cadillac recall overview:

  • Who: General Motors has recalled certain Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles.
  • Why: The rearview camera cable connectors on affected vehicles may have been crimped improperly, causing the rearview camera to fail or function intermittently, the automaker says.
  • Where: The Cadillac recall is active in the United States.

General Motors has recalled certain Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles because the rearview camera can fail.

The recall was issued Sept. 22 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, and applies to 2020-2021 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia equipped with the optional Surround Vision feature.

“The rearview camera coaxial cable connectors may have been crimped improperly, causing the rearview camera to fail or function intermittently,” the recall notice states.

“An inoperative rearview camera can reduce the driver’s rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.”

GM will notify Cadillac owners by mail

According to the recall, an estimated 95,231 vehicles could be affected.

As of July 22, the Office of Defects Investigation had received 12 complaints from vehicle owners alleging failures of the rear-view camera in 2020 and 2021 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles, the recall investigation said.

The complaints reported that the screen for the camera is black, sometimes with a red triangle and a circle with a line through it.

As a remedy for the issue, dealers will replace the coaxial cables, free of charge.

Letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed Nov. 7. A second letter will be mailed once the remedy is available.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

In August, General Motors recalled more than 480,000 vehicles with third-row seats as the seat belts may be faulty.

That recall applies to about 484,155 of GM’s 2021 and 2022 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with third-row seats.
