cadillac class action lawsuitA class action lawsuit has been filed against Cadillac Automobile Company, a division of General Motors LLC, alleging certain 2010-2013 model year Cadillac SRX vehicles were designed and manufactured with a defective sunroof design that causes outside water to leak into the passenger compartment.

Plaintiff Kelley Gaines alleges the affected vehicles have defective sunroof seals and/or sunroof drains that allow water from outside the vehicle to enter the passenger compartment, causing property damage such as wet carpet, mold, and damage to interior components.

She seeks to represent herself and a Class of all current and former owners or lessees of 2010-2013 model year Cadillac SRX vehicles in California who paid for repair and/or replacement of their vehicles because of the leaky sunroof defect.

According to the Cadillac leaky sunroof class action lawsuit, Cadillac has denied warranty coverage for issues associated with the sunroof defect, including the costs associated with cleaning the vehicles and repairing and/or replacing component parts, including wiring and electronic modules.

The Cadillac class action lawsuit notes that Cadillac issued a bulletin to technicians about the water leak, which indicated the most common potential causes as a void in the seal or a problem with the sunroof drain hoses. The alleged issue with the sunroof drain hoses is that they are too short and therefore subject to a higher level of tension that may cause them to disconnect and allow outside water to leak into the passenger compartment.

“Based on its own Service Bulletins and Customer Satisfaction programs, Defendant had actual knowledge and notice, or in the exercise of reasonable care should have known, during the warranty period covering the Class Vehicles of the existence and nature of and correction for the Leaking Sunroof defect,” the Cadillac class action lawsuit alleges.

Even though Cadillac knew or should have known about the leaky sunroof defect, Class Members had to pay to repair the damage caused by the leaking sunroofs. Gaines asserts Cadillac has failed to provide Class Members with a permanent remedy for the sunroof defect and has excluded them from the Customer Satisfaction program and warranty repairs.

According to the Cadillac class action lawsuit, Class Members have incurred and will continue to incur out-of-pocket costs and expenses to repair, replace and/or clean parts of the vehicle that have been affected by the leaking sunroof defect.

More than 222,000 Cadillac SRX vehicles are reportedly affected by the alleged leaky sunroof defect.

Gaines says her Cadillac SRX vehicle experienced the leaking sunroof defect in February 2017, when she noticed the floorboard carpet was soaking wet. She took the vehicle to be repaired, and it was allegedly determined the right front sunroof drain hose was loose. Both sunroof drain tubes were replaced, according to the Cadillac class action lawsuit.

The cost of repairing the sunroof defect and cleaning the vehicle’s carpets cost Gaines more than $1,000, the Cadillac class action lawsuit says. She filed a claim with her automobile insurance company, which paid a portion of the costs, but Gaines says she was still required to pay her insurance deductible of $250.

The Cadillac class action lawsuit asserts claims for breach of express warranty, violation of California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, California’s Unfair Competition Law, unjust enrichment and declaratory relief.

Gaines is represented by Robert A. Waller of Law Office of Robert A. Waller Jr. and Patricia L. Zlaket of Zlaket Law Offices APC.

The Cadillac Leaky Sunroof Class Action Lawsuit is Kelley Gaines v. Cadillac Automobile Company, et al., Case No. 3:17-cv-00989-LAB-JLB, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

27.01.2022 – I am in shock finding this website and this forum. I have 2014 SRX with very low 50 K milleage on it. My car usually sits in a garage and I rarely use it. When I came back after heavy rains over Christmas – the car would not start up. AAA restarted it and said the battery worked just fine, issue will be somewhere else.

Took it to a dealership in SF. It has been there for a week and every day worse and worse news from the dealership. First, when I dropped the car – the guy did not know about anything like this happening. I asked if anyone else had an issue – He did not hear about anything. I asked if there was a recall – nothing. After reading this forum, I find it increasingly hard to believe.

He called – there was a water damage which shorted mother board of the liftgate. Send me pictures, complete write off in that area. He had to perform a water seal test $700; replacing a modul $500, labor another few hundred. He estimated it at $2000 and that is if the motor itself is going to work. If not, he quoted me $1500. So all in all $3500. After reading all of this – I realized it is much cheaper to take it to a normal shop, buy the parts online and not give any more money to Cadillac – also known – as day robbers. So this is what it came to….American company known for luxary cars, which creates defected products and does not own up to it. I paid $50 K for the car. Next time, will be buying good old European luxary.

Other issues with my car : Had to replace struts – all of them!! after 40 K; transmission, completely malfunctioning after 35K, after 20 mins on the sun – the entert. screen on the dash board cracked. Wow, this is the WORST car I have ever had, hands down. I paid $5600 just last year for maintanance. On a car that has a resale value of 15K.

I have had the same issue, drain tubes leaking, have replaced the hatch modules twice . Water fills up under spare tire and shorts out and i can not lift my hatch. I have a 2013 SRX.

    2. cynthia says:

the same happened to me. trunk will not open. i investigated it on you tube and found a video that shared my same problem. water was in the back side panel in the trunk area and under the spare tire area. same as mine. i had open the trunk from inside the car also watched a video on how to do that. i am very upset with GM. keep in mind if you buy one on line it may still need to be programmed by the dealership before it will work. i am interested in the class action law suit as well. no water yet on the inside. (fingers crossed) NOT a happy camper

    I have this same problem

  4. Marty Holz says:

I have the same problem with my 2004 SRX. floorboards are soaked and water leaking through my lights

    1. Marsha Hale says:

The passenger side of my 2012 Cadillac SRX is leaking badly from the sunroof. My floor mats are soaked and the interior fabric is molding including the visor near the mirror. According to the dealership this is not a manufacturer error and is not covered under warranty any longer. So the work they did got by the manufacturer clause however it wasn’t a permanent fix apparently and now it’s up to me to pay for the fix which seems ridiculous!

  5. Disappointed ByGM says:

2011 Srx, 106K miles. Roof leak in 2018, I got it fix myself after watching YouTube videos. Then in October 2021, after 3 days of rain I realized that my liftgate will not open. The carpet was also wet. Inspected the storage space in the trunk, it had several gallons of water which flooded all the the liftgate electric components. I have also had to repair the stability track twice. Lemon car.

  6. Retha Welch says:

How do I join this class action law suit?

  7. Robin Iritano says:

My roof and hatch won’t open and my car has lots of water due to drain hoses! 2012 SRX 145,000 miles not worth it to fix it! How can Cadillac help with this?

  8. Elizabeth Mason Bray says:

comment.. what are you doing with those? My car did this out of the blue .. and now it is a constant problem .. the drain tubes have been cleaned .. and the tailgate lift module replaced TWICE .. I have learned how to open the locked tailgate myself and remove the water to prevent HUGE issues with the electrical system .. what is the MATTER WITH CADILLAC .. and they are so remiss in responsibility . it’s just disgusting .. guess I will find a TOYOTA .. but this is ridiculous and there should be a recall . but I am BETTING there is not a resolution so Cadillac just continues to HURT PEOPLE

  9. Denise Richardson says:

My 2015 SRX is totalled due to this water leak my electrical doesn’t work and I am stick with no car. This is appalling since Cadillac was aware of this issue since 2008. How do I join a Class Action suit

    1. Lori A. Jones says:

I have this same problem with My 2012 SRX. It’s being repaired right NOW for the 2nd time.
I need help. Where do I sign up for the Class action Lawsuit??

  10. Rob Mclaughlin says:

All Cadillac SRX models and CTS models have the same sunroof drain tube issues. Cadillac has known about the issue since 2004 CT’s model year. They have not changed anything so must be waiting for a negligence law suit.
