A new Xarelto lawsuit has been added to the growing multidistrict litigation (MDL) against Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson, from a Tennessee woman alleging Xarelto defects.
The Xarelto lawsuit alleges that the blood thinner had caused the claimant dangerous internal bleeding injuries, requiring emergency intervention.
Plaintiff Nancy E. is alleging serious Xarelto defects, after experiencing serious internal bleeding complications soon after taking the anticoagulant.
Nancy was prescribed Xarelto in June 2015, to reduce the risk of stroke and treating her non valvular atrial fibrillation.
This medication was supposed to reduce the overall risk of blood clot attacks, but had instead allegedly caused fatal injuries.
On Sept. 11, 2015 Nancy was admitted to the emergency room and was diagnosed with anemia, due to the alleged internal bleeding injuries.
As a result of the alleged Xarelto defects, Nancy had to spend two days in hospital and is still contending with severe pain and suffering.
Along with the physical injuries, Nancy has to pay for other economic and non economic damages allegedly caused by Xarelto defects.
Overview of Xarelto Defects
Xarelto was approved by the FDA in 2011, and is the second in a series of new generation anticoagulants that were designed to compete against each other and original blood thinner Warfarin.
This drug was released as a joint effort between Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson, after witnessing the success of predecessor Pradaxa.
Like other anticoagulants, Xarelto works by inhibiting the body’s clotting mechanism and improves the overall blood flow circulation of the body. In consequence, the body’s ability to recover from internal bleeding incidents is also inhibited.
This can lead to potentially fatal situations for Xarelto patients, as there is no bleeding antidote available for the Xarelto defects. At this time, Warfarin is the only anticoagulant on the market available with a widely available reversal agent in the case of internal bleeding injuries.
Even though these Xarelto defects can be potentially fatal to patients, the manufacturing companies allegedly omitted this information from the drug’s warning label.
This action has allegedly caused numerous patients to suffer internal bleeding injuries, each of which were completely unexpected to the patients.
Nancy states that she never would have taken Xarelto if she had known of the internal bleeding risks.
Nancy’s Xarelto lawsuit is being filed in a growing MDL against Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson, where it will stand with similar claims. She is seeking compensation for failure to warn and multiple counts of negligence.
The Xarelto Defects Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-14587, in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Louisiana.
