Top Class Actions viewers are reporting that they have received checks for $193.04 from the Altisource unwanted call class action settlement.

Altisource agreed to pay $1.8 million to settle a class action lawsuit that accused the “business solutions” company of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) when it harassed consumers with calls about its “Cash for Relocation” program.

According to the Altisource unwanted call class action, Class Members received unsolicited calls from the company about a foreclosure program starting Oct. 16, 2013 and ending June 1, 2016.

Altisource allegedly contacted people to offer them payments to move out of their foreclosed homes even though they had not agreed to receive the calls in violation of the TCPA.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act was passed by Congress in the 1990s to help protect consumers from telemarketers and other advertisers. The TCPA also limits the use of auto dialers and prerecorded messages without permission. Fines up to $1,500 per violation can be assessed against companies that cross the TCPA.

The TCPA also limits the use of fax machines and text messages for advertising purposes. The “Do Not Call” registry was also enacted under the law.

Earlier this year, the company agreed to pay $1.8 million to consumers who received the unwanted advertising calls to end the Altisource TCPA class action; however, under the terms of the settlement, Altisource admits no liability.

“The Settlement, which was obtained by counsel with substantial experience in prosecuting TCPA class claims, calls for the creation of an all-cash, non-reversionary, $1,800,000 common fund from which Settlement Class Members who submit Approved Claims will receive direct Cash Awards on a pro rata basis after costs of notice and administration, fees and litigation costs, and the class representative service award have been deducted,” noted the Altisource class action settlement agreement filed Oct. 3, 2017.

According to the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who filed valid claims for the Altisource TCPA class action settlement began receiving checks for as much as $193.04 just recently. If you filed a valid claim for this settlement, keep your eye on your mailbox because checks are arriving.

Altisource unwanted call class action settlement Class Members could file a claim for this settlement until Feb. 12, 2018.
