TCPA robocall autodialer woman on phone

Altisource Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has agreed to pay $1.8 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by using automated calling equipment to call cell phone numbers.

If you received a phone call at any time between Oct. 16, 2013 and June 1, 2016 about a “Cash for Relocation” program offered by Altisource, you may be entitled to a cash payment from the TCPA class action settlement.

The “Cash for Relocation” program was a program allegedly offered by Alitsource to pay people to move when their homes had foreclosed. Plaintiff Tracee Beecroft filed the Altisource class action lawsuit alleging that the phone calls Altisource made promoting its “Cash for Relocation Program” were in violation of the TCPA.

According to the Altisource TCPA settlement documents, there were 56,104 cell phone numbers that were called by Altisoruce using Aspect software in connection with its Cash for Relocation program during the applicable Class Period.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act prohibits the use of automatic telephone dialing systems to contact cell phones without the recipients’ prior express consent. The TCPA provides for damages of $500 per violation, or up to $1,500 for willful violations.

Altisource denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the TCPA class action lawsuit to avoid the risk and expense of ongoing litigation. The Altisource class action settlement was preliminarily approved on Oct. 19, 2017.
