2015 Nissan Pathfinder recall has been issued due to brake light issues.

A recall has been issued on over 354,000 Nissan Pathfinders, some for the second time, by safety regulators over a faulty brake light that stays on.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports 267,276 Nissan Pathfinders built between 2013 and 2015 have a stop lamp relay that can get stuck in the on position, limiting engine power and causing the SUV to start or roll away unexpectedly in some instances, according to U.S. News.

Nissan does not currently face legal action over the faulty brake lights, but Top Class Actions tracks recalls because they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The recall is an expansion of one issued nearly five years ago. In 2016, almost 80,000 Nissan Pathfinders models built between 2013 and 2014 were found by the NHTSA to have the glitch.

The latest recall adds more than 91,000 Pathfinders built in 2015, according to a Nissan report sent to the NHTSA. Nissan estimates about 1 percent of its Nissan Pathfinders built in 2015 are affected.

Investigators found the brake light switch was not only staying on but also interfering with the brake’s gears, allowing drivers to shift out of park without stepping on the brake pedal, according to the NHTSA.

Nissan says at least one crash has been reported because of the brake light problem, but no injuries, according to U.S. News.

The recall will officially begin March 1, regulators said. Nissan will be notifying owners and dealerships of the issue. Drivers of affected Nissan Pathfinders will have remedy options available to them, free of charge, depending on what year the SUV is, the NHTSA says.

The official recall number on the Pathfinder brake light defect is PC786. The NHTSA says this recall supersedes recall 16V-380 send in 2016.

The NHTSA also offers a tool for drivers to see if their vehicle is included in a recall by using the VIN.
