How Omnipod Pod failure can cause serious harm
People with diabetes depend on consistent insulin delivery to help manage their blood sugar levels. When an Omnipod insulin delivery system fails to infuse insulin as intended, the consequences can be serious.
Potential harms associated with insulin delivery failures may include:
- Serious Medical Complications: Insulin delivery failures may lead to dangerous blood sugar emergencies and other serious health complications that require immediate medical attention. In the most severe cases, complications associated with an alleged insulin delivery failure may result in death.
- Hospitalization and Emergency Treatment: Insulin delivery failures may require emergency room treatment, hospitalization, intensive monitoring or other urgent medical care.
- Financial Burdens: Hospital stays, emergency treatment, follow-up care, medications and time away from work can create significant financial hardship for patients and their families.
If you or a loved one experienced serious complications that required emergency treatment or hospitalization after using an Omnipod Pod, you may qualify to participate in the insulin pump lawsuit.
About the Omnipod recalls
In 2026, Insulet announced two separate insulin pump recalls involving Omnipod Pods after identifying defects that could interfere with insulin delivery.
The first insulin pump recall involved certain Omnipod 5 Pods. According to Insulet, a manufacturing defect could cause insulin to leak inside the Pod, potentially preventing users from receiving their full insulin dose. Because the leak occurs within the Pod, users may not even realize there is a problem.
The second recall involved certain Omnipod Pods used with the Omnipod 5, Omnipod DASH and Omnipod Insulin Management System. Insulet reported that a defect could cause a small tear in the tubing used to deliver insulin into the body. While the location of the tear is different, the concern is the same. Users may not receive the correct amount of insulin.
