Trader Joe’s recalled thousands of cases of its Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup as the product contains insects.

The Trader Joe’s website published the recall July 27. It applies to Trader Joe’s Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup (SKU No. 68470) with use-by dates of July 18, 2023, through Sept. 15, 2023.

According to the notice, the supermarket chain’s supplier, Winter Gardens Quality Foods, notified it that the soups may contain insects.

In a July 10 enforcement report on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website, the agency says 10,889 cases of the soup were being recalled because the product “has insects in the frozen broccoli florets.”

Return product to Trader Joe’s for full refund, broccoli cheddar soup recall states

The product was distributed to Trader Joe’s in Florida, Illinois, California, Texas, Washington, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

“No known adverse health effects have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale and destroyed,” Trader Joe’s says in the recall notice.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
