Rainbow sprinkles allergy recall overview:

  • Who: Wilton Industries Inc. is recalling select lots of Rainbow Chip Crunch Sprinkles and Rainbow Sprinkles Mix
  • Why: The sprinkles contain milk, when it was only indicated on the packaging they “could” contain milk
  • Where: Nationwide

A confectionary company is recalling packs of rainbow sprinkles as they contain milk, which could cause life-threatening reactions in some people who have a milk allergy.

Wilton Industries Inc. issued the recall June 2 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website.

The recall applies to select lots of Rainbow Chip Crunch Sprinkles and Rainbow Sprinkles Mix.

“Although the product label does indicate that it may contain milk, this recall is being conducted because some samples of the product were found to contain milk,” the recall notice states.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

Wilton said the health and safety of its consumers was its primary concern and it was acting with the “highest degree of caution and urgency to address this issue.”

This recall is specific to the lot codes below. The lot codes can be found on the bottom of the container. Other lot codes are safe.

  • RAINBOW CHIP CRUNCH SPRINKLES lots 20294Z, 20314Z, 20345Z, 21013Z, 21022Z.
  • RAINBOW SPRINKLES MIX lots 21005Z and 21111Z

The products were distributed nationwide.

Consumers who have purchased these products should immediately dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, the recall says.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The products will be removed from shelves at several retailers and distributors nationwide.

Last month, the TJX Companies recalled certain of its Pimlico Confectioners and Keats London brand vegan chocolate products over concerns they may contain undeclared milk, presenting an allergy risk.
