Polaris snowmobile recall overview: 

  • Who: Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling 14,885 snowmobiles. 
  • Why: The Polaris snowmobile recall comes due to a fire risk on the snowmobile when both the throttle and brake are pressed simultaneously.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the United States and Canada.

Polaris Industries Inc. is has issued a recall on 14,885 of its 2022-2023 MATRYX RMK KHAOS and PRO snowmobiles due to a fire hazard when both the brake and throttle are pressed simultaneously.

The recall, posted by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, is a joint effort between the United States and Canada.

The Polaris snowmobile recall includes snowmobiles that were sold in black and custom color combinations with the words “POLARIS” or “KHAOS” stamped on the front side panel.

The 2022 models are the PATRIOT BOOST RMK PRO165 MATRYX SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK PRO163 MATRYX SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK KHS155 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK PRO155 3″ MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 165 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 163 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 155 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 155 MATRYX, 850 RMK KHAOS 165 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 163 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 155 MATRYX SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 155 MATRYX, 850 RMK KHAOS 146 MATRYX SLASH, 650 RMK PRO 155 MATRYX and 650 RMK KHAOS 146 MATRYX SLASH.

The 2023 models are the 650 RMK KHAOS 146 SLASH, 650 RMK PRO 155, 850 RMK KHAOS 146 SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 155, 850 RMK KHAOS 155 SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 163 SLASH, 850 RMK KHAOS 165 SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 155, 850 RMK PRO 155 SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 163 SLASH, 850 RMK PRO 165 SLASH, 9R RMK KHAOS 146 SLASH, 9R RMK KHAOS 155 SLASH, 9R RMK KHAOS 163 SLASH, 9R RMK KHAOS 165 SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK KHAOS 163 SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK KHAOS 165 SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK KHS 155 SLASH, PATRIOT BOOST RMK PRO 155 SLASH and the PATRIOT BOOST RMK PRO 163 SLASH.

Owners should immediately stop using the snowmobiles and seek repair, Polaris snowmobile recall says

Polaris Industries says it has received 164 reports of brake system failure and 22 reports of fires related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Polaris is asking owners to immediately stop using the snowmobiles and seek a free repair, based upon the recall. Polaris can be reached at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central, Monday through Friday; consumers may check the company’s website to find out if their vehicle identification number (VIN) is included in any recalls.

    My 2023 Polaris RMK 165 Slash Boost shut off and started on fire with 112 miles on it. Polaris denied my warranty claim and offered me nothing.
