K-Apparel children’s lounge pants have been recalled, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The distributor, K-Apparel, issued the recall over a burn hazard, according to the CPSC. The alert notes that the lounge pants violated federal flammability standards that children’s pajamas need to be either snug-fitting or flame resistant.
The recall was issued on Jan. 30, 2020.
According to the CPSC’s recall alert, approximately 2,200 K-Apparel children’s lounge pants were sold. The pants are made of 100 percent cotton and sold in 18 different prints in children’s sizes small through extra-large.
The lot numbers can be found on an inside seam label and include 58500-51, 58500-52, 58500-53, 58500-54, 58500-55, 58500-56, 58500-57, 58500-59, 58500-60, 58500-61, 58500-62, 58500-63, 58500-65, 58500-66, 58500-67, 58500-69, 58500-70, and 58500-71.
TINFL is the brand name of the pants. The distributor, K-Apparel, is based in California. The pants were made in South Korea, according to the CPSC.
The K-Apparel children’s lounge pants that have been recalled were sold on Amazon.com for $18 between October 2018 and September 2019, according to the alert.
The CPSC instructs consumers to stop using the recalled K-Apparel children’s lounge pants immediately.
Consumers who purchased this product can obtain a refund for the pants. To obtain a refund, consumers need to contact K-Apparel Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. PT by phone at 800-201-8743. Alternatively, consumers can email mir2015@outlook.kr at any time. The email should include “Product Recall” in the subject line.
Additionally, K-Apparel has indicated it will contact known purchasers to inform them of the refund available.
Recalls of Children’s Products
The K-Apparel children’s lounge pants recall is not the only recall of kid’s clothing and other items. In fact, another recall of children’s loungewear was issued just a few months ago. Ragdoll & Rockets recalled their children’s pajamas because of a similar violation of federal flammability standards.
In addition, Hooey recently recalled children’s sweatshirts due to a strangulation hazard posed by the drawstrings on the product.
Similarly, J Crew recalled Crewcuts boy’s denim pants over concern that the stonewashed jeans could contain small rocks in the pockets or waistband. The rocks can be dug out by kids and present a choking hazard.
IKEA also recently recalled infant bibs. According to the recall notice, the snap on the bibs can come off, posing a choking hazard for infants and small children.
“The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products under the agency’s jurisdiction. Deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually,” notes the commission’s website.
“CPSC’s work to help ensure the safety of consumer products – such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette lighters and household chemicals -– contributed to a decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with consumer products over the past 40 years.”
