Chrysler recalled more than 160,000 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer and Cherokee vehicles as the rearview camera may not display an image when drivers put the vehicles in reverse.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website published the recall Aug. 14. It applies to certain 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and 2022-2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles. There are 162,713 potential vehicles affected.
According to the recall, the vehicles may have an issue where the central vision park assist module (CVPAM) software can prevent the rearview image from displaying when the driver places the vehicle in reverse.
“A rearview image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver’s visibility of the rear view, increasing the risk of injury or crash,” the Jeep recall states. As such, the vehicles don’t comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111.
The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Software to be replaced for free, Jeep recall says
Dealers will update the CVPAM software free of charge, the Jeep recall states. Chrysler expects to mail owner notification letters Oct. 3, 2023.
Chrysler initiated another Jeep recall earlier this month, when it recalled more than 44,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles as the airbags can fail to deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Please add me
We have a 2019 and its hit or miss if the camera will work with you open the rear hatch. My husband will remove a item then stand there and I put the car in reverse to see if it is working or not. If it does he gets a thumbs up, if it doesn’t then he opens it up again and closes it and we repeat the process. I just turned 60K in miles.
