Family Dollar OTC recall overview:
- Who: Family Dollar recalled some of its over-the-counter (OTC) medical devices and products.
- Why: The company initiated the recall after it discovered the OTC products were improperly stored outside of labeled temperature requirements.
- Where: Family Dollar stores across the United States are affected with a few exceptions.
Family Dollar voluntarily recalled certain over-the-counter (OTC) medical devices and products after discovering they were stored outside of labeled temperature requirements.
The company says the recalled products were “inadvertently shipped to certain stores” from between around May 1 and June 10, according to a recall published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Sept. 16.
The current recall expands on an earlier Family Dollar recall announced in July that also covered OTC pharmaceutical products, according to the recall.
Family Dollar says it has not received any complaints from customers or reports of illness related to the recall, which it says is being done “out of an abundance of caution.”
The recall involves a variety of different products sold by Family Dollar, including condoms, pregnancy and marijuana test kits, lubricant, denture cleaning solution and saline nasal mist, among other things.
Family Dollar says it has notified affected stores and asked them to look at their inventory to see if they have any of the recalled products, and, if so, to immediately “quarantine and discontinue the sale of any affected product.”
Family Dollar recall says consumers can return products without receipt
Customers who purchased any of the recalled products can return them to the Family Dollar store they were bought from without a receipt, according to the Family Dollar recall.
The recall does not apply to any store locations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington or New Hampshire.
Consumers wanting more information about the recall can contact Family Dollar directly by phone at 844-636-7687 and should also contact their medical provider if they feel they are having adverse health effects.
Also this month, Starbucks recalled 221 cases of its Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot espresso shots over concerns they may have been contaminated with metal fragments.
Starbucks did not reveal how it discovered the potential issue nor whether anyone has been injured on account of the possible contamination.
