Healthy Choice recall overview:

  • Who: Certain Healthy Choice-brand Power Bowls are being recalled.
  • Why: The Korean-Style Beef Healthy Choice Power Bowls are being recalled due to undeclared allergens.
  • Where: The recall is active nationwide in the United States.

More than 22,000 pounds of frozen beef products sold under the Healthy Choice brand are being recalled because the product actually contains chicken and milk.

The recall for Healthy Choice Power Bowls Korean-Style Beef was published Sept. 17 on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website.

The recall applies to 9.25-oz. cartons labeled as “Healthy Choice POWER BOWLS Korean-Style Beef” with lot code 5246220320 and a “best by” date of April 18, 2023.

According to the Healthy Choice recall the product—which is distributed by Valley International Cold Storage Acquisition, LLC—is misbranded and contains undeclared milk allergens.

The frozen products are labeled as Korean-Style Beef, but actually contain a chicken sausage and pepper product, which contains milk, it says.

“The product contains milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label,” the recall notice says.

Recalled Healthy Choice products were distributed nationwide

The items were produced on July 22, 2022 and were distributed to retail locations nationwide, the recall states. Approximately 22,061 pounds of frozen “beef” products are being recalled.

The problem was discovered when Valley International Cold Storage Acquisition notified FSIS that it had received consumer complaints that the Korean-Style Beef cartons contained a chicken-based product.

“There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products,” the recall states.  “Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.”

FSIS said it was concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The news comes as a number of popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls this week for products that may pose potential injury to consumers, including seafood meals and beef jerky. Click here for more information.
