Gas fireplaces warning overview:

  • Who: The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning for Innovative Hearth Products’ Montebello ST and DRT63ST fireplaces.
  • Why: The fireplaces can cause fires and create a risk of death and serious injuries.
  • Where: The fireplaces fires warning is valid across the United States.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning for Innovative Hearth Products’ Montebello ST and DRT63ST fireplaces because the fireplaces can cause fires.

The Innovative Hearth Products Montebello ST and DRT63ST fireplaces can cause fires even when professionally installed, leading to the risk of death and serious injuries, CPSC says.

Innovative Hearth Products has gone out of business and cannot conduct a recall.

The CPSC asks consumers to stop using the fireplaces immediately, and to either replace them or have the gas line professionally sealed, CPSC said.

The fireplaces were sold nationwide for between $10,400 and $13,000 under the Lennox, Astria or Superior brand names as the “Montebello See-Through” or “Montebello ST” and the “DRT63ST” fireplace models between 2011 and March 2021.

Fireplaces manufactured after March 2021 are not affected by the fireplaces fires warning.

Several residential fires caused by fireplaces, warning says

CPSC says it is aware of several residential house fires related to the Montebello See-Through and DRT63ST fireplaces.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers should report incidents involving the Lennox, Astria or Superior gas fireplaces or any fireplace-related injury to CPSC on its website.

Twin-Star issued a November 2023 recall for its Style Selections 42-inch-wide Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplace product, sold at Lowe’s, due to a fire hazard created by overheating.
