Frigidaire Electrolux refrigerator ice maker class action overview:
- Who: Electrolux recalled Frigidaire and Electrolux side-by-side, top freezer and multi-door refrigerators.
- Why: The ice level detector arm in the ice maker can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, posing a choking hazard.
- Where: The recall is effective in both the United States and Canada.
Electrolux recalled certain Frigidaire and Electrolux refrigerators due to a hazardous flaw in the ice maker after multiple complaints with one customer reporting injuries.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted the recall on its website June 2. It applies to 13 models of Frigidaire and Electrolux side-by-side, top freezer and multi-door refrigerators.
Consumers can find exact models here. Electrolux sold about 367,500 of the fridges in the United States and about 7,180 in Canada.
The problem with the fridges is that the ice level detector arm in the ice maker can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, posing a choking hazard, the recall notice says.
Electrolux recall notice reports more than 180 broken fridges
Electrolux has received 185 reports of the ice level detectors breaking, including one report of gum lacerations, according to the recall notice.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Frigidaire and Electrolux refrigerator ice makers, empty the ice bucket and contact Electrolux to schedule a technician to replace the ice maker with one that has a polypropylene ice level detector free of charge,” the notice says.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
The products were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot and appliance stores nationwide and online at Frigidaire.com from April 2020 through March 2022 for between $1,200 and $4,300.
Meanwhile, two Samsung customers sued the South Korean electronics giant and its American offshoot for allegedly defective refrigerators that “pose unreasonable risks of property damage and serious personal injury during normal use” by running above temperatures for safe food storage.

We purchased a Frigidaire refrigerator in October 2021 and from day one there has been one problem after another. The ice maker had to be replaced in November 2021 and the control panel stopped working and we can’t change the water filter. Because of this we can’t get any water and the ice maker is not working. This fridge is a piece of crap. Wasted money on this crap. Furthermore, I can’t get any help from anyone at Frigidaire Company.

Purchased a Frigidaire Gallery French Door refrigerator 27.8 cf on March 11, 2022. Have been having issue after issue. Has only produced about a cupful of ice. Top ice maker replaced. Main control board has been replaced x2. Front display panel malfunctioned and was replaced. Vegetables in bins freeze. Have had A&E service here at least 5 times. Refrigerator cost $2,500.
Still paying for it. Requested a return authorization number and am still waiting.. Will call again!!

My Frigidaire refigerator was obviously not insulated in the back as it rusted a hole and destroyed the wall. Now the ice maker doesn’t work.
Happened to my 2017 Frigidaire piece of crap too!!
