DGL Group Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards Fall Risk Recall Overview:

  • Who: DGL Group recalled about 93,000 Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards.
  • Why: The products have a software issue that allows the board to keep working without rider control, causing at least four injuries so far.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

DGL Group recalled about 93,000 Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards due to a software issue that allows the boards to keep working without rider control, causing at least four injuries so far.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall notice May 19. It applies to model year 2020 H1-SPFY Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards.

“A software malfunction in the electrical system can continue to provide assistance to the motor, causing continued momentum, when the rider is not actively controlling the hoverboard, posing fall and injury hazards,” the recall states.

The recall says that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hoverboards and contact DGL Group for instructions on how to ship affected units to an authorized repair shop free of charge.

The company initiated the recall following 29 reports of a software issue that caused the hoverboard to provide “continued assistance” when the rider was not actively controlling it, according to the recall notice. It also received four minor injury reports.

DGL Group s not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

DGL Group Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards Sold at Best Buy Stores Nationwide

DGL Group sold the hoverboards at Best Buy stores nationwide and at Bestbuy.com from October 2020 through October 2021 for about $200.

The recalled hoverboards are black with blue LED lights on the hoverboard deck near the foot pads. They also have “Hover-1” written on the front and serial numbers beginning with SPFY-BLK-GO-2008, SPFY-BLK-GO-2009 or SPFY-BLK-GO-2010 on the bottom.

Consumers can also find a warning label on the bottom of the hoverboard next to the serial number that states “H1-SPFY.”

Last year, Razor USA issued a recall for around 237,000 GLW battery packs used to power its Hovertrax 2.0 Self-Balancing Scooters/Hoverboards after determining they posed a fire hazard.
