Fromm Family Foods has issued a voluntary recall of four of its Fromm Four-Star Nutritional Shredded canned dog foods due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D, amounting to 5,500 cases of its shredded beef, shredded chicken, shredded pork, and shredded turkey, all in gravy.
The company said in the recall notice that no reports of illness or injury had been reported to date, however it said that management had determined it was prudent to pull the four lots out of distribution.
The recalled products were distributed at neighborhood pet stores nationwide, and are all packaged in 12 oz. cans with 12 cans per case. The best before date on all products is 08/2024.
The affected products are Four-Star SHREDDED BEEF IN GRAVY ENTRÉE food for dogs, UPC 7270511876; Four-Star SHREDDED CHICKEN IN GRAVY ENTRÉE food for dogs, UPC 7270511880; Four-Star SHREDDED PORK IN GRAVY ENTRÉE food for dogs, UPC 7270511878; and Four-Star SHREDDED TURKEY IN GRAVY ENTRÉE food for dogs, UPC 7270511882.

Do Not Use Products, Warns Recall on Fromm Dog Food
Dog owners should stop feeding the products to their dogs, as potential adverse reactions can occur in all size dogs, the company warned.
Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may show symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction.
Consumers who have dogs that have consumed any of the affected products and are exhibiting these symptoms should contact their veterinarian, the company said.
Consumers who purchased Fromm Four-Star Shredded Entrée canned dog food are urged to return the product to the retailer. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-325-6331 from Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, Central Time, or may contact info@frommfamily.com.
Recently, the parent company of dog foods Taste of the Wild and Kirkland Pet Foods reached an $8 million settlement with pet owners who alleged that Diamond Pet Foods misleadingly represented and advertised its products as being grain free, when lab tests allegedly detected grain among the products’ ingredients.
